Turf Talk
- Rail is out 6m from the 1700m to the 800m, 9m the remainder
- As the rail goes out at Geelong, think it brings the wider lanes into play
- Winds blowing across the track from inside rail to outside rail down the back straight
- Expect the track to play reasonably well
Race 1
Playing against a few of those at the top of the market here.
Like the way (4) Roulette King has trialled up on a number of occasions. Trained by Trevor Rogers, this gelding has shown good ability in his lead-up work and from gate five should put himself in a prominent spot. Think he can be competitive at a big price on debut.
(10) Quickaz is going to get all the favours from a good gate on debut. She has won a couple of trials, showing good ability. She is tactically versatile and I suspect from gate three Jamie Mott will have her right on speed. Julius Sandhu often gets his horses ‘ready to go’ on debut and think there’s no exception here.
(7) Ice Quake has also trialled up well for her debut – think she can run well.
Betting suggestion: Backing (4) Roulette King and (10) Quickaz
Race 2
(2) Circus Circus showed good ability at the jump-outs prior to her debut, where she didn’t look 100% comfortable on the going at Bendigo. She still ran OK in what looked a strong race on paper. The step in trip is ideal, as is getting back on top of the ground. Slightly sticky alley but with a long run down the back straight into the home bend, hope they are positive early.
Would love to see a set of blinkers go on (9) Naraghi – think she has some talent, but is still doing plenty wrong. She hit the line OK in a handy maiden at Seymour last time out after being given no hope the way the race was run on debut. Have always liked how she’s jumped-out and at $41, she’s over the odds.
Betting suggestion: Small bets (2) Circus Circus and (9) Naraghi
Race 3
Again targeting two horses.
Loved the last 100m from (4) Join The Que on debut at Mornington. He got a bit keen when the pace came out of the race in the mid stages and not sure he took the corner all that well, but his straight line speed late was good. The third horse out of that race has since won. He really knuckled down the last bit of that 1200m contest and stepping to 1400m today from a good gate looks ideal. He should lob one out, one back, or similar, without doing any work and I don’t think he needs to improve much to be winning this.
Thought the debut of (9) Hulkster was better than it looked. He was home the 4th best last 400m split of the meeting there behind Romantic Encounter, suggesting the step to 1440m will be ideal. He had shown talent in jump-outs prior to that and the wide draw is no issue for a horse that will get back anyway.
Betting suggestion: Backing (4) Join The Que and (9) Hulkster
