Turf Talk:

  • Warm day in Ballarat so expect the track to be upgraded to a Good 3 at some point.
  • Light winds, rail true at Ballarat = likely advantage to horses in the first 4-6 in running. It can be tough to make ground at Ballarat.
  • Big spacious track with a lovely 1200m sprint chute.

Head over to the TIPPING HUB for further selections for today’s Ballarat meeting plus previews for tomorrow’s racing.

Race 4

Moderate race for $75k! Well done to all the connections who have placed their horses well here.

(14) Wavelets went around a huge price on debut but had absolutely no luck here over 1200m, going to the line largely hard held. There has already been good form to come out of that maiden and she should get a good run from gate three in a race that doesn’t have  a lot of speed.

(11) Hurry Up Poppy will probably get over a touch further as her career unfolds but she’s shown a good turn of foot in two 800m jump-outs at Cranbourne. This looks a very winnable assignment for her on debut.

(10) Figurante has had plenty of chances, but she can run a race up on speed at a huge price. She had no luck fresh here at 1000m but getting to 1200m she can dictate, rather than be dictated to. Over the odds at 50/1.

(5) Manifest The milli maps well and has jumped-out reasonably well. Limited mare, but always tries hard.

Suggested bet: Backing Wavelets/Hurry Up Poppy with something small also Figurante at 50/1. Don’t mind the race.

Race 5

(2) Warparty was tried out to 1850m last campaign, but his best form is between 1200m and a mile. He has jumped-out nicely ahead of this return. His best ratings are superior to his rivals and he was a first up winner over 1200m last campaign (against arguably better opposition). Gets a handy claim for Jackson Radley in a race most have seniors up.

(10) Fondled beat a very moderate lot at Kyneton last start but she’s still on the up and will push forward – some hope.

(6) Joltin’ Joe has lost his way a bit in recent preparations and he had 48 weeks off coming into this campaign – so maybe an issue? He was OK against stronger opposition first up at Cranbourne and his best would easily account for this field – but maybe that best is behind him.

Suggested bet: Like Warparty.
