Cheltenham rolls into Day 2 and the markets again look vulnerable in a number of races. While a couple of favourites dominate the betting, our on-the-ground source believes there is plenty of value if punters are prepared to look a little deeper into the fields.
As with Day 1, the mail comes from someone right in the middle of the UK jumps scene. Their Cheltenham intel in previous years has proven extremely sharp, and they have again identified a handful of runners they believe are overpriced in the market.
Below is their full assessment of Day 2 at the Cheltenham Festival.
13:20 (12:20am AEST) – Race 1
This is a wide open looking race and worth throwing a few darts given the market is setup by the horrific price for No Drama This End. Last year we played Shuttle Diplomacy in the bumper and he is progressing nicely so is worth a stab at 25/1. We laid a few quid on Saint Baco to a good mark so at 40/1 he is worth including in small bets.
14:00 (1:00am AEST) – Race 2
A similar makeup in that Romeo Coolio is making the market for the rest and whilst the Arkle has franked his form, he has to step up a mile in trip and surely has it to prove.
I think there are two good plays here and one really strong one. Western Fold has been running well all year and wasn’t off a yard last time. With this better ground and trip sure to suit, he can’t be 14/1. Kaid D’authie around 6/1 also makes plenty of appeal.
At a monster price Thomas Mor is being completely overlooked. He ran well against Kitzbuhel and Wendigo at Kempton and with this track to suit better, feels he’s been ignored at 66/1.
Tip: Western Fold @ 14/1 & Thomas Mor @ 66/1
14:40 (1:40am AEST) – Race 3
This looks wide open but again there appears to be a strong play in Puturhandstogether. Successful here last year and has been running well, looking like this trip would suit given he won over 2m on the flat.
At a bigger price, Chart Topper hasn’t had things go quite right the last few times but has promised to run a big race at times and 33/1 looks an inflated price.
Tip: Puturhandstogether @ 11/1
15:20 (2:20am AEST) – Race 4
Not a race for me personally, but the team feel fairly confident Final Orders will give us a run for our money.
16:00 (3:00am AEST) – Race 5
Lay: Majborough – had everything in his favour at the Dublin Racing Festival and conditions will be very different here.
16:40 (3:40am AEST) – Race 6
In The Pocket hasn’t been right for a while but it’s not impossible to think he finds his form again here and he is now on a very workable mark.
Release The Beast is another worth considering in what looks an open race.
17:20 (4:20am AEST) – Race 7
Love Sign D’aunou just wins. If there is any support for It’s Only A Game tomorrow then he has the potential to show up well and we should follow it in.
Tip: Love Sign D’aunou @ 4/1
