The lowest paid industry workers in NSW will receive an extra $100 a week in a $1.6 million boost from Racing NSW.

It follows Racing NSW’s announcement on Thursday they would offer $1.5 million for fuel relief in the state, just days after Betsy revealed trainers had started passing on a levy to owners to cover the rising cost of petrol and diesel.

According to Racing NSW, those who are eligible for the extra cash include stable staff who qualify for the 2% stablehand’s prizemoney bonus and work at least 8 hours per week as well as casual raceday officials, including swab officials, clerks of scales, starters, judges and also barrier attendants.

The scheme will run until late May, like the fuel subsidy, and will then be reviewed. Racing NSW said the latest announcement followed ‘’feedback received from industry participants after the initial announcement yesterday’’.

“We always want to ensure that the industry’s lowest paid workers are supported and this new payment, in addition to the 2% prizemoney bonus, provides extra support when it is needed most,’’ Racing NSW Chief Executive Peter V’landys said.
