Damian Lane could potentially miss riding Treasurethe Moment in the Feehan Stakes after copping a 15-meeting suspension for his ride on Aeliana in the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes on Saturday.
Lane pleaded guilty to breaching whip rules, striking Aeliana five times more than permitted before the 100-metre mark. Stewards also fined him $3000 for the infringement.
The suspension will sideline Lane from September 21 to October 4, ruling him out of Moonee Valley on Manikato Stakes Night but allowing him to return for Turnbull Stakes Day.
The penalty could create a headache for trainer Matt Laurie and powerhouse operation Yulong, who may need to find a new rider for star mare Treasurethe Moment should she line up in the Group 2 Feehan Stakes on Manikato Night.
The Feehan looms as a possible next step for Treasurethe Moment after her recent colic scare, although Laurie has not confirmed her participation.
Mr Brightside, ridden by Craig Williams, controlled the Makybe Diva to secure his 10th career Group 1, with Aeliana finishing unplaced.
