The Everest of the Autumn – What an exceptionally strong edition of the TJ Smith Stakes. You could make a case for nearly every runner, so many question marks, form lines and decisions to make from the barrier. Take a look at my runner-by-runner preview.
Jimmysstar – What do we do here with Jimmy? Plain first-up when $2.15 in the William Reid, copped two black eyes and the worst part of the track. We know how good he is, it’s whether or not he can find that within two weeks though.
Briasa – They have to push the button early and look to find the 1-1 if he is to win. I thought his run in the Galaxy was terrific, he hit a wall in the inferior wide lanes late, that will top him off perfectly for this.
Giga Kick – Back to back 1000m efforts and now gets to his pet 1200m Randwick setup which has seen him win an Everest. He’ll land 3-4 pairs back on the outside and if the rain comes, he’s right in this.
Overpass – Simply put, he’s at his best first-up 1200m at Randwick. He gets that Saturday off some solid enough trials. He’ll lead for a long way, the only concern is if the rain comes.
Mazu – Honest as the day is long, will be there for longer than most think. Not sure he can win though.
Joliestar – She’s the map horse, any way you cut the cake she’ll get the ideal run. Love the 28-day gap between runs back to 1200m, she’s got the best jockey in the land on board and can only run well.
Tentyris – Breathtaking first-up in the Lightning, I dare say his run was even better in the Newmarket against the savage bias, peaks now and will lap up the Randwick 1200m setup. The only concern I have is barrier 1. I think we will see the changing of the guard in regards to Australia’s best sprinter.
Magic Time – She comes right into this race if the rain hits, Soft 6 or worse she becomes a winning chance.
Skybird – Plain first-up, looks a tough ask here.
