All Aged Stakes Barrier Breakdown: Winners and losers form the draw

A tricky 1400m start, rail out and a likely on-speed edge shape the key takeaways from the All Aged Stakes draw at Randwick.

All Aged Stakes – Winners/Losers

It’s quite a unique 1400m starting point at Royal Randwick, around 300m until a dog-leg turn. From there they go down the side before the very generous home turn. Overall, it is a kind enough starting point but on a firm deck can often favour those up on speed.

The rail is out +7m (1000m–Winning Post), +5m the remainder. I do anticipate a slight advantage for gallopers to be up and in. An above-average tempo will be needed to suggest those landing worse than midfield can run on.

Winners from the Draw

Beiwacht (2)
Ideal barrier for the G1 Golden Rose winner. He has smart tactical speed and doesn’t look to have huge amounts of speed around him. Ridden too hot in the George Ryder and now gets Nash aboard. Lovely setup.

Angel Capital (4)
Lovely draw for Angel Capital. Yes, he can be tardy out of the gates but it’s interesting to see the barrier extension for the first time. Add to that, he has the master in James McDonald aboard to get him out cleanly. If he begins with them, the 1-1 is his.

Giga Kick (7) and Pericles (1)
Gun draw for Giga Kick who is set to peak here up to 1400m. He’ll likely grab the back of Angel Capital who should tow him right into the race. Pericles has copped some poor gates this prep but finally draws a good gate here. Back to 1400m should see him sit handy enough on the back of the key 3yo in Beiwacht.

Losers from the Draw

Jimmysstar (12)
A poor draw overall but even more so with the way he is going. There’s no beating around the bush, he hasn’t been anywhere near his best and now has to contend with gate 12. He has shown tactical speed but it looks detrimental if he is caught wide.

Headley Grange (14)
Yes, he has tactical speed but looks cast from the draw. Will likely snag and need a lot of luck to get into the race.

Overall

Overall, the All Aged Stakes has come up a cracker. James is booked aboard Angel Capital and not Fangirl, where is Jimmysstar at? The addition of the 3yo Beiwacht suggests it’s a cracking event. I dare say we will see Angel Capital start favourite come race day.
