Henry Dwyer has broken new ground for an Australian trainer by being granted a UK training licence this week, and will expand his business across both hemispheres.
Dwyer has had success with Asfoora in Europe over the past two years, plans to keep around half a dozen horses in work in England and chase the biggest festivals over there.
“Honoured to have officially been granted our UK trainer’s licence by the BHA,” Dwyer said on his X account.
“We’ve thoroughly enjoyed competing at all the major festivals the past two years, an experience we want to share with all our Australian owners.”
“We plan to purchase and have in work 4-6 horses each summer in the UK, before repatriating them to Ballarat to continue their careers.”
“We’ll likely have three runners at Royal Ascot next week, something we’d love to build on each year.”
Asfoora will try to lift a second King Charles III Stakes next Tuesday after winning the five-furlong sprint in 2024.

She has proven the inspiration for Dwyer’s European dreams, winning the Prix De l’Abbaye in Paris and Nunthorpe Stakes last year to be crowned Europe’s champion sprinter.
Dwyer has been active at sales in England and Ireland in the past year, with two of his purchases set to join Asfoora at Royal Ascot next week.
Former Joseph O’Brien-trained Synners Kid will target one of the big handicaps of the Royal meeting, the Britannia Stakes on Thursday, after two unplaced efforts since Dwyer bought him.
Ready-to-run purchase Kochella, who debut with a third at Pontefract, will run in the Albany Stakes at Group 3 level on the Friday.
