Zac Lloyd (Guest House): “First half went alright. Got onto the back of Warwoven. I thought it was a good play. Just when the pace dropped out of the race around the side, he got a bit keen on the heels of Warwoven. He and St Gotthard had a little bump and took a bit of gas out of each other. Unable to finish off the race.”
Ben Melham (Campione D’italia): “Got quite hot and sweaty pre-race. He was tardy away but relaxed. Gave himself every chance to hit the line. Would have been more pleasing to see him run home and finish 2 or 3 lengths closer.”
Damian Lane (Tron Bolt): “He ran well. Travelled great but just lacked a touch of change up speed. Kept finding the line well.”
James McDonald (St Gotthard): “I thought he ran outstanding. He is just going to get better and better. The interference at the 800m, no one’s fault, it was just the horse came out when over-racing and took the wind out of me. He never really recovered after that. For him to box on and run second like that was incredible. If I had the winner’s run I would have given the race a shake.”
Aaron Bullock (Cormier): “He was terrific. We got onto the back of Guest House who was inside of James McDonald on the second favourite. I just felt from the 600m they weren’t really taking us into it. My bloke was there ready to pounce. He just sort of whacked to the line. Will put him in good stead for the mile and probably 2000m.”
Nash Rawiller (Berzelius): “Nice colt. Probably showed a few signs today that it’s do him good for a break. A good rest because he didn’t get much after Queensland. A few signs he might have had enough.”
Craig Williams (Stormy Marco): “He was back in the field. Hard to get into the race. Did no work early. Had an economical run. Top of the straight I thought he’d really lengthened and go past them. That calibre of horse they just outsprinted him. Once he gets out further, they don’t have that acceleration and he’ll come to his own.”
Dylan Gibbons (Under Focus): “He is still very raw. Gee he travelled well at the top of the lane. I was surprised when he got to them the winner went that quick. Very gallant in defeat.”
Tim Clark (Central Europe): “Just had to do a bit of work early to come across. Relaxed well but sort of just rolled a bit. Battled on OK.”
Regan Bayliss (Plagiarism): “Very proud of his performance. Obviously the best colts in the country. I thought he handled himself well.”
Chad Schofield (Tenenbaum): “Very good run. We had the run of the race. He sat one one, tried really hard. To run fourth in that race was a very good effort.”
