In The Lab | Turnbull Stakes | Group 1 SW+P 2000m
Fifteen runners in the Turnbull Stakes and plenty of rain coming should put us in a Heavy range. Not a great deal of speed on paper with Light Infantry Man taking up the running from barrier 3 and Sir Delius parking on his outside. Aeliana and Cosmic Crusader have options to settle a bit closer from the low draws but I doubt Cosmic Crusader wants to burn petrol early. Under the set weight and penalty conditions Sir Delius has to carry and extra kilo this year (59kg) and produce a figure of 111+ which he has done twice. He’s a strong chance and deserved favourite but I can’t be with him at $3. Aeliana was right back on track behind Autumn Glow however she’s more effective over further and I doubt the tempo will suit. Cosmic Cursader has to be a risk at 2000m – his best ratings are around a mile. Two horses that stick out are Light Infantry Man and Buckaroo. Light Infantry Man is 3: 2-0-0 at the track & distance – he will get a soft run throughout and has the ratings to win this. Buckaroo has rated 107 or better 11 times in his career and loves a wet track. He’s very well suited by the conditions of this race with 55kg. I’m happy to be with both at odds.

In The Lab | Epsom handicap | Group 1 Handicap 1600m
Big field in the Epsom Handicap and tempo looks solid with Fully Lit taking up the running and plenty of speed drawn wide. Typically this race hasn’t been kind on horses up in the weights therefore Autumn Boy and Well Written must find new peaks to win this. Attica has been ticking over nicely this prep and drops from 58kg to 51.5kg. He’s trialled well since the Tramway and Joe Pride has elected for the blinkers again. Clearly this is a target race and he maps very nicely from barrier 6. Well Written was solid winning the Proisir Plate first up however the sectionals weren’t flash. Autumn Boy is going well but needs a good steer from gate 1.
