Star jockey Jamie Melham has chosen to ride the flying Blue Door in The Everest rather than try to win another Caulfield Cup with Half Yours later this month.

Bjorn Baker wanted to get the best rider available at the weight and with Rachel King locked into Green Spaces in the Caulfield Cup, there weren’t many options to ride the 51kg in the $20 million showcase.

“It is a race, where you need to find the best available, and fortunately, we were able to get Jamie, who rides the weight and is one of the best in the country,” Blue Door’s trainer Bjorn Baker said.

“Blue Door is going to be right in the race and fillies have a good record in it.”

Melham won the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups on Half Yours last year, and was suspended for careless riding on the stayer when he was fifth in the Saturday’s Turnbull Stakes.

Mark Zahra will take over on the defending champion in the Caulfield Cup.
