Betsy’s Dean Watling has reviewed key NSW Barrier Trials and uncovered a number of horses to follow.
Randwick | October 23
Rishaka – Chris Waller (Sam Clipperton)
Randwick H7 900m – October 23
Back-to-back trials now where she has shown ability. Long action and attacks the line well. She looks to want to get over ground as well. Ready for the races now, just need to check what distance she resumes over.
Composed – Paul Snowden (Regan Bayliss)
Randwick H9 740m – October 23
Second prep after 50 weeks off for this now-gelding. He went out for a spell off the back of an impressive win, beating the progressive Sequista. Loved how he trucked to the line before working enthusiastically past the post. Look for a second trial now and make sure he comes through that heat well.
Infallible – Waterhouse & Bott (Tim Clark)
Randwick H11 740m – October 23
Fast overall time for the debut hitout of this two-year-old. Smart form lines now, with the second horse, Amelia’s Affair, winning impressively down the straight on Cup Day. Look for a second trial now and then off to the races.
Gosford | October 28
Paltrow Miss – Ciaron Maher (Adam Farragher)
Gosford H1 1200m – October 20
Very impressive second trial for this import. Loved how she has come back looking at both of her trials. She has looked sharp and full of running in both and looks a progressive stayer.
Accidental Bid – Ciaron Maher (Ashley Morgan)
Gosford H1 1200m – October 20
Same heat as Paltrow Miss, another progressive stayer who is having his second career prep here in Australia. We know that more often than not these imports really hit their straps after their first prep here. Liked the way he found the line and travelled throughout.
Bel Merci – Ciaron Maher (Adam Farragher)
Gosford H10 740m – October 28
Extremely slow overall time in a walk, but I liked the action of Bel Merci here. Second full prep now with Ciaron Maher and looks to be going great. Needs another trial and we need the time to be solid.
Aromatherapy – Ciaron Maher (Liberty Smyth)
Gosford H10 740m – October 28
Trial of the morning. Plenty of style and conviction about this filly. She looked outstanding in her action as she dragged Liberty Smyth to the line. Smart work through the line and looks one who can sharply rise through the grades. Look for a second trial now.
