Spring is still in the air but already stables are turning their attention to the summer and autumn, when the country’s premier 2YO races will be run.

Many of the star 3YOs that emerged over the spring have 2YO siblings coming through the ranks, with connections hoping they can continue the family legacy.

James Tzaferis takes a look at some of spring’s pin-ups that have 2YO siblings named and entered for the Magic Millions, Blue Diamond and Golden Slipper.

Strictly Business: The VRC Oaks winner has a two-year-old half-sister in training, also with Tom Carberry. Named Refuse To Curtsy, the daughter of Royal Meeting hasn’t been seen publicly just yet but she is among the first acceptances for the Blue Diamond.

In Carberry’s words “we’re letting her mature a bit more before we ask her any serious questions. She’s looking every bit as athletic as her sister and she enjoys the work so there are good signs with her.”

Remember the name 🌟

Tentyris: The brilliant G1 Coolmore Stud Stakes winner has a two-year-old half-sister in work with Anthony and Sam Freedman. A Darley homebred by the organisation’s one-time shuttler Blue Point, the filly is named Parcae.

Beiwacht: Another Darley homebred to keep watch for in some 2YO races later this season is Café Reine, who is the full sister to the brilliant Golden Rose winner. Although she is currently listed as spelling, she is prepared by Beiwacht’s trainer Chris Waller.

Apocalyptic: MyRacehorse’s star filly almost made it a clean sweep of the country’s feature 3YO fillies races during the spring, going down narrowly in the G1 Thousand Guineas after easily winning the G1 Flight Stakes. Her 2YO full-brother Hidrix, who was bought for $1.7 million as a yearling, was also in work over the spring. Trained by Chris Waller, he ran fourth in a Rosehill trial before being sent to the paddock.

Attica: The Spring Champion Stakes winner is the first foal out of top race mare Savatiano. The mare’s second foal is a 2YO colt named Sabates, who is by Palace Pier and is listed as active with Ciaron Maher in NSW.
