Turf Talk:
- Turf Talk: Rail 5m
- Warm start to the week and we should be on a Good track.
- I like this rail at 5m, usually a very fair placement.
Stats that matter:
- Big fan of Jasper Franklin the apprentice. Others with better stats at the moment but 8 wins from last 50 is good going and can knock up some more winners this month.
- Gollan has a massive team in here and sure to get winners. Ticking over nicely at 22% for his last 50 runners.
Race by race preview:
Race 1:
Handy Maiden this one and expect a few winners to come out of it.
(1) Slipsain is better than Maiden grade and returns for his second prep. No luck at all two runs back but has had some of the best late splits in all his career runs.
Not sure it’s the strongest race (9) Tapagal comes out of but liked the last 100m there. Fitter now and can be a player.
(3) Barrelling and (7) Miss Hifalutin are both Gollan, both plain last start but could be improvers without surprising.
Selections:
(1) Slipsain
(9) Tapagal
(3) Barrelling
(2) Elrond
Suggested Bet: Small win bet (1) Slipsain
Race 2:
How is (4) Torque To Be Sure still a maiden? Not disgraced in Group races last prep but looked plain when resuming. Poor recovery so you have to forgive that. Won’t get a better chance to breakthrough than this.
(7) Wootten Hyde is one I have been with its last couple but has been beaten fair and square. Beaten by good horses though and returns here off a let-up.
(12) Lady Milan may be next best but needs to improve off the latest effort.
Selections:
(4) Torque To Be Sure
(7) Wootten Hyde
Suggested Bet: Win (4) Torque To Be Sure
Race 3:
(2) Celtic Brave was well held by the winner on debut but, gee, the last 200m was good. Put a gap on the rest of the field and can only improve off that effort. Better than Maiden grade.
Hard to win in town on debut but Gollan has (16) Tassorati who won its trial and looks handy. Watch the market.
Selections:
(2) Celtic Brave
(16) Tassatori
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 4:
(4) Let’s Do It Again got the nose down on the line to win last start over 1845m at EF. Was on speed in a slow run race and had everything go its way. Still, a solid effort.
I thought (6) Tommy Thug was good dropping back in trip in the same race but was back in the field and was zero chance from back there. Best L600-400-200m of the race and back up in trip is a big positive.
Not sure how anyone could have backed (3) Kerkorian last start but he was $14 into $9.50 and won easily. Off that he is a chance, hard for me to have though.
(2) Around The Buoy is building fitness and needs at least this trip to show his best. Stable is airborne.
Selections:
(6) Tommy Thug
(4) Let’s Do It Again
(2) Around The Buoy
(3) Kerkorian
Suggested Bet: Win bet (6) Tommy Thug
Race 5:
Tough race to assess, many different formlines.
(6) Detrimental had good form in NZ but changed stables and plain this area last prep. Has been gelded and was a big trial winner. Could be a different horse with no plums!
Have always had time for (3) Acappella Sun and she joins the Gollan team. Sat back in a trial and strong through the line. If they go hard here I can see her going over the top of them.
No doubt (1) Rich Minx is very fast but the last 50m really worries me unless it’s a dynamite leaders track.
Selections:
(3) Acappella Sun
(6) Detrimental
(1) Rich Minx
Suggested Bet: Win (3) Acappella Sun
Race 6:
Gee, this is a tough way to start a quaddie. I actually don’t know here, just follow the Qld money trail.
(6) Abender mixes up form but fitter 2nd up and getting back on to dry ground might be the key for him.
(13) Miss Funny Honey showed good ability in her first prep and every chance of coming back a better horse in her second prep.
(8) North Pole has shown good ability and in a good stable, can be a player in this.
(9) Take A Bow and (11) Special Artist worth genuine thoughts for exotics.
Selections:
(6) Abender
(13) Miss Funny Honey
(8) North Pole
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 7:
(3) Breezin’ has bumped into a couple of in form horses lately and this looks a tad easier. Can map well and should be around the money again.
(12) Shortcut looked super last start breaking maiden status. It was a Heavy 8 so I want to see her do it again on dry before I bet.
(16) Ready For Aimee is lightly raced with Gollan and respect any money for her.
(4) Romantic Bubble has had good support since markets opened and money talks in Qld.
Selections:
(3) Breezin’
(12) Shortcut
(16) Ready For Aimee
(4) Romantic Bubble
Suggested Bet: No bet
Race 8:
One of the best bets scratched, frustrating.
(2) The Irish is a winner in town and a good one on his day. Better horse on wet ground and better over further but this is a weak enough race for him to play a part.
(7) Toro Strike has only won 2 of 12 but is a consistent type. Handles all ground and one for exotics.
(10) He’sgotthesay has been good this prep. Lacks some class but some chance here after scratchings.
Selections:
(2) The Irish
(7) Toro Strike
(10) He’sgotthesay
Suggested Bets: No bet
