The iconic Magic Millions gallop on the beach and barrier draws is set to find a new home.

The biggest free public event of the Millions carnival, packed with action, will be moved from Surfers Paradise as the beach there continues to recover from the effects of Cyclone Alfred in February.

The event will find a new home outside the Kurrawa Surf Club at Broadbeach in 2026.

“Broadbeach is one of the most popular beaches here on the Gold Coast and will provide the ideal conditions and setting for both horses and people attending,” Magic Millions managing director Barry Bowditch said.

“We look forward to again delivering an incredible spectacle that will showcase the Gold Coast all around the world.”

The beach gallop, which started with only a couple of horses strolling under the beach, has turned into a showcase of the industry with the best jockeys and some personalities flying across the sand a couple of times on the Tuesday before the $12.5 million Magic Millions raceday.

The majority of the racing industry base themselves at Broachbeach for the carnival, so it is expected to be crowded with big names.

“Broadbeach will be heaving with industry participants as well as engaging the broader Gold Coast community and to be able to showcase our iconic barrier draw for the two-year-old TAB Magic Millions Classic,” Bowditch said..

“The beach run is something we are really looking forward to.”

The program for Magic Millions starts with a twilight meeting at the Gold Coast on January 10. There will be more than $6 million prizemoney, featuring the $3 million Sunlight, which was won by Private Harry last year.

It moves into the rich Pacific Fair Magic Millions Polo and Showjumping at The Spit on January 11 before the Yearling Sale starts on January 13, after the barrier draw and beach gallop in the morning.

The week will culminate with the Magic Millions Classic for two-year-olds and Magic Millions Guineas for three-year-olds, both worth $3 million, at the Gold Coast on January 18.
