A racehorse that got loose on Dromana Beach in Victoria and galloped down the Nepean Highway in busy Thursday morning traffic has emerged unscathed from the scary incident, trainer Amy Yargi has confirmed.
Social media and talkback radio lit up on Thursday morning with reports a riderless horse was galloping down the Mornington Peninsula’s busiest thoroughfare, dodging cars, buses and pedestrians.
It turns out it was a cantankerous gelding trained by Amy and Ash Yargi at Mornington who, during a routine recovery session in the shallow water, had bucked his rider off and galloped down the beach.
Yargi took to social media several hours later to report that the gelding had been safely captured and returned to her stable without injury.

“What was supposed to be a nice, relaxing morning at the beach turned into a little bit of drama,” Yargi said in a video on Facebook.
“He was feeling a little bit too well and decided to check out the sights of Dromana and Safety Beach and gallop down the road.”
“I’m sure many of you have seen him on social media so I wanted to assure you that he is absolutely fine.”
“He is an experienced horse and he’s been to the beach a number of times – he goes twice a week on average.”
“He got in the water today, was having a bit of a play and decided to have a buck – the rest is history.”
“He’s come out of it unscathed and thank goodness that the public have come out of it OK as well and we want to say a heartfelt thank you to the passers-by that stopped and let our staff jump in cars and offer assistance to track the horse down.”
