Nash Rawiller has picked up the ride on Beiwacht in Saturday’s All Aged Stakes, which shapes as the race of the season with up to a dozen Group 1 winners to line up over the Randwick 1400m to close the Autumn Carnival.
The Golden Rose winner’s usual partner, Adam Hyeronimus, had taken another ride, so Rawiller was asked to ride Beiwacht in a Canterbury barrier trial on Friday after Chris Waller decided to target the Group 1 instead of the Arrowfield Stud Stakes on the weekend.
“He was very good in the trial and feels like a horse that is at his peak,” Rawiller said. “He just cruised in the trial, but he is very classy and will love the 1400m.”
“We saw that in the Golden Rose.”
“It is going to be a good field but he is right in the race because of his style.”
The free-going Beiwacht ran a track record for the Rosehill 1400m in the Golden Rose and was runner-up to Joliestar in the Canterbury Stakes two runs back. He found the 1500m too far in the George Ryder Stakes last time.
The All Aged will be highlighted by the last three winners of the race in Jimmysstar, Magic Time and Giga Kick.
Caulfield and Melbourne Cup winner, Half Yours, returns on his way to Brisbane at Randwick, while All Star Mile winner Tom Kitten, Futurity hero Pericles and Coolmore Classic victor Lazzura will all looking to add another Group 1 to their autumn haul.
Rawiller will start a seven-day suspension for breaching the whip rule on runner-up Lindermann in Queen Elizabeth Stakes after next weekend, for which he was also given a $7500 fine.
Lindermann had uncharacteristically settled last in the super-fast 2000m race and Rawiller used the whip 10 times to get him into the race.
“I was riding him on a long rein all the way and he is not used to being back there,” Rawiller said. “I actually thought at the 200 he might test the winner, but he was just too strong.”
