He is best remembered for his fierce rivalry with the legendary Black Caviar, finishing runner-up to her in four Group 1 contests. Time and again, Hay List pushed the unbeaten champion to her limits—most memorably in the 2011 T.J. Smith Stakes, where he surged three lengths clear before Black Caviar reeled him in late.
