Turf Talk:
- Terang is a beautifully laid out track with a long home straight.
- It’s a track that has had its share of issues the past few years with some significant patterns emerging, albeit unpredictable.
- Recent meeting had the rail in the same position (out 3m from 1000m-WP, True remainder). What I suspect they are trying to do with that position is avoid the hot lane down on the fence that has become synonymous with Terang.
- At the last meeting it was a case of ‘the wider the better’ in the home straight.
- Keep a close eye on how early races play out.

Race 3
Happy to take on (6) Cisco here as $3 favourite. He has been gelded leading into the campaign and has reasonable form through his last preparation, but jump-outs have been moderate at best. Can win but think he’s gross unders at $3.
(3) Silver Snow was good first-up without much luck in a handy race at Ararat. Step to 1200m is ideal and Willie Gordon riding a tick. Track pattern will be interesting as at the most recent Terang meeting – with the rail in the same spot – horses were getting off the fence, which would be a big plus for Silver Snow.
Think (8) He’s A Hustler deserves to be favourite. He wanted to hang on debut but was OK at Wangaratta. Impressed with a jump-out between runs and tongue tie/Meech going on both positives for a galloper that will roll forward.
Market has flipped and He’s A Hustler is now favourite, but rightly so.
Suggested bet: Backing Silver Snow, saving He’s A Hustler.
Race 7
Good speed through (8) Frosty Night, (7) Brutify, (1) Corro and (9) Break The Taboo.
(6) Ville De Lumiere trialled up nicely prior to her first-up run at Horsham where she had absolutely no luck over 1100m. Better suited here out to 1200m and strong tempo/wide draw are both plusses for a mare that needs air. Second-up record doesn’t read great (3:0-0-0) but one of those runs was fourth in a Stakes race, she was unlucky at The Valley in another while she led at her most recent second-up run which isn’t her go. Provided they can make ground, she should start shorter than the current $4.20 on offer.
Wary of (9) Break The Taboo who debuts for Shayne Jackson. Jump-out at Camperdown was good on speed and Jacko has a knack of getting the best out of tried horses. Want her on side at $11.
Suggested bet: Backing Ville De Lumiere, small something Break The Taboo.
