Race 2 – 2:55PM INGLIS XTRA BONUS PLATE (1200 METRES)
$100,000 Inglis Bonus Race for the 3YO Maiden gallopers. Big field as you would expect for such good prizemoney.
5 debutants vs 11 with race experience make up the field of 16. Of the raced brigade, #4 HAY STREET brings the best ratings, running well in strong races across his two campaigns. 4th in a G3 Kindergarten, beaten 1.16L before running in a Group 3 Vain Stakes in Melbourne, beaten under 3 lengths. McDonald on is a very positive lead and his trials leading in have been pleasing. The barrier looks tricky for him, coming from the outside and that’s the query at the end of 1200m after two 796m trials. How much work will this horse need to do?
#5 JOURNEYMAN is another with an awkward barrier but looks a nice type. This gelding by The Autumn Sun looks ready to make his debut today on the back of three impressive trials this campaign. He won his first two at Rosehill over 900m before having a quieter trial over the 1030m when finding the line nicely. Chad Schofield has ridden in all trials this time in and knows the horse well. Likely to get back from barrier 10 but he looks a smart horse. Aside from the gate, the other concern is the fact he has had 5 career trials across two campaigns and is yet to travel away from his home track of Rosehill. How will he go making the trip to Warwick Farm? Parade might be important.
#8 WRITTEN IN WRATH is another we are keen to have onside. He looks likely to work over from the barrier and he should take luck out of the equation. He put his trial to bed quickly after settling on speed, putting a big gap on a horse we have a lot of time for in High Alert. That horse has since run well on debut in a nice race.
Think #4 HAY STREET is too short. Risk at 1200m first up from a wide barrier. Nice horse and nice ratings but too short. #5 JOURNEYMAN and #8 WRITTEN IN WRATH look much better value.
Suggested Bets:
#5 JOURNEYMAN (Small WIN)
#8 WRITTEN IN WRATH (Small WIN)
Race 4 – 4:05PM ASAHI SUPER DRY HANDICAP (1200 METRES)
BM72 over 1200m. Speed from CLEAR PROOF with SIGNOR TORTONI likely to work across and settle outside lead.
#8 SAMARELLE looks set to find the one one for James McDonald and looks hard to beat today. Nice win on debut before two second placings, the latest in a Group 3 Reginald Allen at Randwick over 1400m. She looks to have improved if anything since that race, trialling superbly this time in. 740m heat at Randwick was her first assignment, camping just in behind them and cruising around for a nice second. Loved her latest trial over 1050m when settling midfield and bursting through late to win impressively. James McDonald took the ride there which was eyecatching, especially with how she performed and he stays on today. Tick, Tick.
#1 SIGNOR TORTONI is a danger. Trialled very well either side of a failure first up back in December when having excuses. Nice horse on his day but he does look short enough given he draws the outside and has a big weight.
Suggested Bet:
#8 SAMARELLE (WIN)
Race 7 – 5:50PM TAB HANDICAP (1400 METRES)
BM72 over 1400m. Tough race and strong race to finish the program. Quite a few chances here.
Just wanted to highlight #5 SIRIUS LEGEND who we think is over the odds fresh today. He brings career ratings off his two wins last campaign at 1500m and 1600m that would be very competitive here and loved his trial at Randwick latest, finishing off smartly. Yes, he beat a few stayers there but the way he moved was most encouraging. Expecting him to get back and finish off smartly. No shock if he’s in the finish at $20+.
Suggested Bet:
#5 SIRIUS LEGEND (Very small EW)
