Gibbo is normally our Queensland specialist, but with a cracking card at Flemington this weekend it didn’t take much to lure him interstate.
After running through the meeting he’s found a couple at double-figure odds that he believes can give punters a genuine run for their money.
Here are Gibbo’s plays from Flemington.
Flemington Race 6 – #4 Hydrobomb ($14 / $3.20)
Might be way off the mark trying to get the odds-on pop Zambales beaten here. It deserves to be favourite but gee it’s short.
Hydrobomb was taught plenty at the trials and the debut run over 1300m was excellent. Leopard Shark went straight past him late but he fought hard and kicked again under pressure.
The rise in trip looks ideal and he can improve lengths off that race-day experience. At the odds he looks capable of giving punters a sight.
Flemington Race 8 – #12 Butternut Princess ($13 / $3.20)
She’s the lowest-rated horse in the race which explains the price, but if you dig a little deeper the form stacks up better than it first appears.
Two runs back at Sandown she produced the fourth-fastest last 400m of the entire meeting. She then went to Caulfield where she took on half this field and was clearly better than most of the runners she meets again here.
On that occasion she also recorded the best last 600m and 200m of the entire day. She’s a mare in form and there’s no reason she won’t be strong again getting out to 1600m.
Two at double figures from Gibbo at Flemington. If they bring their best, both look capable of giving punters a very nice result.
