Race 3 – 12:52PM Hahn Handicap BM70 (1100 METRES)
Despite the wet weather for Gather Round Adelaide is pumping this weekend and it looks a great card of racing to get the Adelaide carnival into full swing.
Race 3 looks fairly wide open with the scratching of early favourite Street Artist. Track pattern will be interesting but even with the rail +9m I’d suggest wide/last crack will be favoured, but watch race 1 & 2.
I blackbooked #12 HYPERNOVA following his recent trial at Strathalbyn. That was a heat with some good gallopers in it, they went along quickly and I liked the way this horse balanced up and ran through the line, with Todd Pannell not asking him for any sort of effort. Always thought he’d make a horse since his early trials and he’s continued to improve with racing, and looks to have improved again in his break. Pannell sticks, he draws to find the right part of the track, should get the tempo to have his chance and we get the right price.
#14 SWIFTIE HARRIET continued to improve last preparation, culminating in a win in 78 grade at Ballarat before pulling up with issues when well beaten at Caulfield, and was immediately spelled. The recent trial alongside Watchmewin was good and much like Hypernova, I think the track and map suit her here fresh. Looks the main danger.
#15 OMAHA DAWN trialled very well before a good fresh win and did beat Swiftie Harriet last preparation. Gate 5, 54kg and Holder all ticks but does face much stiffer competition here and her two career peak ratings have both come fresh, so prefer to see her do it again before I can really trust her.
#1 MT NISEKO has to carry the 60kg after the claim for Chadwick but has earnt it, winning through his grades last time in and returning this preparation with 5L defeats to Celerity and Shadhavar. It’s clearly the strongest form in the race and he does look a big price. Can save.
Suggested bet:
Want to be with #12 HYPERNOVA off the lovely trial at $11. Quite keen on his winning chances, but at the price he’s an attractive 1 x 3 play. Small bet #1 MT NISEKO, he looks over the odds at $14.
