NZ Trial Watcher has cast their eye over Foxton and Cambridge on Tuesday, identifying a number of sharp performers to follow out of the trials. From well-bred debutants to race-ready types nearing a return, here are the key takeaways and horses to blackbook.

FOXTON TRIALS 14/04 (Heavy 10)

Heat 11 – MDN – Catchweight – 1000m (1.03.60)

1st – 3y c YALDY (Robbie Patterson)
2nd – 5y m BEE PRECIOUS (B Newman)
3rd – 4y g OFFERTORY (P & T Didham)

Summary: “Time Test colt YALDY impressive at his first outing, mustering good speed to go forward he sustained a strong run throughout, recording a quick time to win the trial. Hailing from a family of prolific winners he’s looking to follow in their footsteps.”

Horse To Follow: 3y c YALDY

Heat 17 – OPEN – Catchweight – 1400m (1.31.00)

1st – 8y g WENEEDASHOCK (H Matthews)
2nd – 3y f PLATINUM DIAMOND (L Latta)
3rd – 8y g HIDALGO (N Quinn)

Summary: “Another outstanding trial from the filly PLATINUM DIAMOND this time against the older horses, sitting handy to the speed, she was bolting under a big hold from Bruno Queiroz to the line and a return to races must be near.”

Horse To Follow: 3y f PLATINUM DIAMOND

CAMBRIDGE TRIALS (Polytrack) 14/04

Heat 1 – OPEN – Catchweight – 1300m (1.16.20)

1st – 4y g DEALTH WITH (James & Wellwood)
2nd – 3y f CONFESARA (James & Wellwood)
3rd – 4y m FRENCH THINKER (K Van Dyk)

Summary: “Kingsclere pairing of DEALTH WITH & CONFESARA strode out in good style given a strong piece of work which was reflected in the overall time recorded. DEALTH WITH is a free-rolling horse and ideally suited to this kind of surface, the filly CONFESARA tried hard in the chase, freshened since her Ellerslie win, worth following.”

Horse To Follow: 4y g DEALTH WITH & 3y f CONFESARA

Heat 4 – MDN – Catchweight – 1300m (1.19.07)

1st – 3y f CELEBRATE NOW (James & Wellwood)
2nd – 4y g JAMESTOWN (D Kennedy)
3rd – 4y m CHAMPAGNE WISHES (Ramsay & Ritchie)

Summary: “A visually impressive trial win from CELEBRATE NOW, shown ability in her short career to date, worth noting this trial was run in slow time against modest opposition, however, she looked at home on the polytrack surface and can be followed with confidence over the winter months of racing at this course.”

Horse To Follow: 3y f CELEBRATE NOW

Heat 9 – OPEN – Catchweight – 850m (54.60)

1st – 3y f TO CAP IT ALL (S Marsh)
2nd – 3y f SINGLE RED (A Forsman)
3rd – 4y m AGILE (Team Rogerson)

Summary: “TO CAP IT ALL and AGILE speared off in the front pairing with the progressive filly and Group 1-placed SINGLE RED in pursuit and she made good late ground in the straight, coming off a freshen since the Oaks, another win appears likely. The heat winner TO CAP IT ALL has been just fair this campaign racing in the best of 3YO company, this performance could see her improve with her sights lowered.”

Horse To Follow: 3y f TO CAP IT ALL & 3y f SINGLE RED
