Dean Watling’s Wagga Town Plate Preview: Can Rue De Royal handle the wide draw

An open edition of the Wagga Town Plate with key lane bias shaping the race, and a strong push for Rue De Royal despite the gate.

Race 7 – Wagga Town Plate (1200m)

It’s a very open edition of the Wagga Town Plate over the 1200m. The track looks to be playing very fair this year with lanes 4+ in the straight key. With that said, (5) Rue De Royal goes on top, gritty on-speed win first up when pushing the button in the middle stages. Yes, draws wide but has tactical speed and should find the back of a horse in the three-wide line. The big tick is he’ll get to the right lanes.

(3) Point And Shoot would have gone on top but from gate 1 he’ll likely be trapped on the fence and face a tough ask. The market watch late is on the now gelded (4) Royal Insignia. Three trials this preparation for this first-up assignment and should land in a sweet spot in transit. Of the rest, (1) Well Timed goes in the mix. Forget last start, he looks the map horse and will enjoy the firm deck.

Selections:
(5) Rue De Royal
(3) Point And Shoot
(4) Royal Insignia
(1) Well Timed

Suggested Bet: Rue De Royal WIN
