Shaun Beirne is back with his latest Bet Legends market watch and while the money has come for a pair of runners at Scone on Friday, the professional punter is more than happy to take them on at the current prices.
Beirne believes two heavily-backed runners have already firmed beyond their true market value, while the Scone Cup itself shapes as a race he’s happy to take on punters.
Scone Race 5 – Chains Of Love
Chains Of Love has attracted strong support in early betting and has tightened into clear favouritism, but Beirne is happy to oppose the market move.
“Her ratings from the first preparation were only fair and while the recent trial was okay, I’m not convinced she should be as short as she is now,” Beirne said.
“The map looks horrible from the draw and that’s the big concern. She’s going to need things to go right.”
With the market continuing to firm throughout the morning, Beirne is comfortable taking the filly on.
“Once they get into even money or shorter territory, I’m happy to bet around her.”
Scone Race 6 – Lighthouse Lass
Another runner attracting strong market support is Lighthouse Lass, but again Beirne is cautious about diving in at the current quote.
“There’s been really good money for her this morning and you always have to respect that,” he said.
“But I was against her off the rating last start and I think she probably gets too short now.”
Instead, Beirne is leaning towards a rival at better odds.
“I actually prefer Brutal Belle in the race and that’s the one I’ll be cuddling.”
Scone Cup
The feature Scone Cup shapes as one of the more difficult betting races on the program and Beirne is happy to watch rather than play.
“It looks a very open race and I’m keen to just let them bet,” he said.
