The Group 1 Might and Power Stakes will be Treasurethe Moment’s next hit-out before the Cox Plate, with her trainer Matt Laurie admitting he was disappointed with her defeat in the Feehan Stakes on Friday.
Pride of Jenni was back to her best in the Feehan at Moonee Valley, denying Treasurethe Moment who was retuning from a bout of colic.
“I was pretty disappointed at the time, I mean I don’t like losing any race,” Laurie told SEN.
“But she’s pulled up really well … and sound, she seems perfectly happy.”
Laurie said losing aside, he was happy with how his mare returned from illness.
“I mean going in a month between runs with a setback is not ideal but i was very happy with Treasure,” he said.
“And you know i think she’s clearly run really well … but Ciaron [Maher] has got [Pride of] Jenni going very well.”
“She’s knocked off the best, so she’s certainly put in a good performance.”
Laurie said Treasurethe Moment’s sectionals were impressive and despite not picking up the win, it was an important hit-out as she eyes off a Cox Plate.
“I mean, her sectionals were very good throughout, everything from the half-mile onwards was quicker than Jenni,” he said.
“She just gets that start on you and you’ve just got to be really mindful that you’re not taking your horse out of its comfort zone, you know, just trying to win one race.”
“You want to win every one of them, of course, but you’ve still got to make sure she comes through it well on the other side and carries on to hopefully, you know, some more Group Ones.”
