Race 1: (MDN 2YO&UP 1200m)

The lightly tried (4) LEICA ACE is better than maiden grade on the evidence of her early preparations, close-up defeats in strong fields and has a positive racing style. She returns from 640 days out and has been given two quiet trials at Foxton to prepare. There appears to be intent first-up with blinkers added to her gear for the first time and provided she’s fit enough this is a low maiden race to be winning.

Race 2: (OPEN HCP 1200m)
Tempo: Above Average
The inside ground should be ok early in the card and that would give the classy in-form mare (1) IMA BRAZEN ONE another winning opportunity with gate speed to kick up and lead and hold out the other speed runners in (2) ILLICIT DREAMS and possibly (5) CAITLYN’S WISH. Coming off a dominant 3.5L victory at Trentham, she gave the majority of the field 4.5kg in weight and could not have been more impressive and is worth sticking with in her current vein of form.

Race 6: (R65 1400m)

The (1) MARANELLO improved dramatically with the addition of ear covers and blinkers back on at start three returning from a spell. Snagged back after a good beginning from the wide draw at Woodville, he chimed in strongly with the best L600&400 to win narrowly defeating the fast-finishing KYANITE MAN a subsequent winner at Otaki on Friday. Up in grade but can settle closer this time. Genuine each-way chance in this field.

Race 7: (R65 1200m)
Tempo: Fast
Speed everywhere on the map. They should go quick early and set it up for something coming wide late in the day. A big return from (3) AMAZING SON at Woodville last month when 236 days out puts him in winning contention, he jumped well rode the speed and was nabbed late. He was also soft in betting and coming from a stable whose runners generally improve with racing so it was a surprise effort and expecting further improvement second-up. A horse who can be equally-effective ridden quiet and finds a race with an expected fast tempo.
