Sunday thoroughbred racing is in Devonport with good numbers across the eight-race program.

There are 95 acceptors across the day, with the first race scheduled for 11:05.

R1 Ladbrokes Mega Multi 3yo Maiden, 1150m

SUBARASHII EXPRESS (5) turned in a strong debut effort after facing the breeze throughout. The winner enjoyed a much softer run and had the last crack at him. From a perfect draw, the one to beat. JUDGE ROYALE (3) appeals as the pick of the three debutants. He finished last in his only trial but was never knocked around, being beaten just 2.3 lengths. SIR WILLIAM (4) makes his local debut and should lead or settle handy. While his lone placing from five starts came on a Heavy 10, his recent Hobart trial was respectable enough to warrant respect in a race that lacks depth. COOL AS YOU (1) lines up for his fifth run of the preparation. His first-up performance his best effort to date, having been plain in three runs since and needs to lift.

R2 Goodstone Group Maiden, 1009m

RUM’UN (2) trialled nicely here during the week and looks set to run well on debut. UNA PALOMA BLANCA (8) boasts a handy record at the track with three placings from four starts and looks one of the better each-way chances in an open race. THERMAL MISS (7) was well-backed but had clear excuses at Hobart and has drawn to get a much better run. NICALBI (1) is back sharply in trip and 5 weeks between runs. Had no luck at a crucial stage last time. PENINSULA ROSE (5) likes to roll forward but brings moderate mainland form. BRUTAL EMPIRE (9) resumes gelded and with multiple gear changes. Had some support on debut but did a fair bit wrong and looks an improver this time around.

R3 Kevin Sharkie Maiden, 1350m

SURF SOUL (7) resumes in a very winnable race. Just the one placing from 10 starts but his form is better than it reads. DA SILVER FLASH (9) was well supported first up and although not far away was a bit disappointing on face value. 5 weeks between runs and fitter now, might be worth sticking with. STOLLAWAY NED (6) debut run was better than it looks after striking trouble at the start. EQUIVASTER (10) was rock solid first up but will need luck from the gate. GUBER (3) was placed at track and trip two runs back and blinkers go on for the first time.  LEO DAVINCI (4) place claims again.

R4 Meridian Horse Transport Class 1 Hcp, 1350m

KNIGHTS REIGN (4) has been ultra consistent and from the inside gate should be able to find the front and will be hard to get past.  RIPPINGTON (5) returns from a 10-week break and strolled home by 5 lengths at only start on this surface. MEGALITA (2) started favourite but never looked comfortable on the soft going at Hobart and can improve sharply. OUTBUSH (9) was rock solid here last time, draws well again, each-way claims. COLONEL BOGEY (3) finally got his maiden out of the way last start and only slightly harder here. FRENCH SOUL (1) did enough resuming and this trip will suit better. Won second up at a similar trip in his first preparation.

R5 Torque Gear For Guys Class 4, 1350m

GARCON D’ESPOIR (1) has come back well and is closing in on another win. Was a big run in defeat last time after covering ground. Tricky gate to contend with again but the one to beat. TASSIE POWER (6) has returned in good order and as long as he handles Devonport for the first time will go close.  BILLIE THE GREAT (9) hit the line strongly last start and looks ready to step out in trip. SIMPLY DEEP (5) continues to race well and solid each-way claims.  WILD DANCER (8) has won 2 of 3 this preparation and keeps improving albeit was gifted the lead last time. KIREINA MARUBRAH (4) produced a big form reversal to score here two weeks ago and this contest only slightly harder.

R6 Hospitality Tasmania Benchmark 64 Hcp, 1009m

HOULIHAN (9) pinged the gates first up and won well then was a touch slow out last time and had to do too much work early to find the front. FLUFFY’S GIRL (8) wasn’t far away at Hobart in a strong form race. COOL HEART (6) has trialled up well and can feature returning from a break. She ran a big race first up last preparation this track and trip. MISS KEEDS (7) gets a good set-up from the draw but she’s a hit and miss mare. THE REAL MAN (5) can improve back in distance and with blinkers going back on. ALPINE THUNDER (3) has plenty of speed drawn inside him but fresh record is very good.

R7 Stall Gate Kiosk Class 2 Hcp, 1650m

AZONTO (3) rattled home at Hobart when back in trip and will find the 1650m more to his liking. TIKKEN (2) has been competing well of late in stronger company but is a query at this trip. TIZSA NICE DROP (10) brings winning form and is a reliable synthetic horse. HENLEY EXTREME (7) is proven second up and can improve sharply off the Hobart effort. RESPITE (6) and REGAL HUNTER (3) wider chances but more depth to this race than last time.

R8 Seba Sheetmetal Benchmark 64 Hcp, 1880m

DON’T GIVE UP (1) hit the line strongly last start and ready now fourth run back. TIDEFORD (3) led and wasn’t beaten far at benchmark 68 level last start. Looks to lead again from the inside gate and has to be respected. MERLIN BEACH (2) just missed last start and looks well placed stepping up in distance although maps to concede them a start. THE TAZWEGIAN (6) returns from a couple of poor mainland runs. Form prior was solid. ALISENT (5) got too far out of her ground resuming but ran on soundly and will be further improved. ALPINE TROUT (4) next best.
