Beiwacht was too good in the Memsie Stakes, hear from the beaten brigade:
Craig Williams (Mr Brightside): “I was thrilled. Credit to his training combination of Ben, JD and Will Hayes and all the team around him, and what a phenomenal horse, he’s an amazing horse, he’s now run second in this race again, and what I really liked about his performance today, I thought the last part of the straight was better than the first part of the home straight so I think he’s only going to improve off today’s run.”
Ethan Brown (Jimmysstar): “I’d be forgiving. I thought he found a nice enough spot after 300 metres, he travelled well throughout but he just hated having that horse lay all over him throughout, struggled to quicken into gear after that, just trusting he’s going to come on from the run.”
Mark Zahra (Tom Kitten): “He ran super, just couldn’t get a cart into the race but he hit the line very nicely.”
Jye McNeil (Buckaroo): “Trademark stuff from Bucky first up, he loves getting around Caulfield over 1400, to be only a few lengths away, I thought it was a great effort.”
Ben Melham (Angel Capital): “He hates the ground. I wanted to have him in a position where I was able to build my revs with the run under his belt and try to put him into the race before the corner but he just doesn’t find his top on that going.”
Beau Mertens (Birdman): “Very good run, obviously well short of his best run but I think he’s put a terrific effort in today, sort of struggling to get around the corner, got bumped a little bit but once we got clean ground at the top of the straight he really balanced up and lengthened well, he was really strong his last 150 metres so very happy.”
William Pike (Cosmic Crusader): “He ran great, just couldn’t find a decent drag into it, one got under my neck, didn’t put itself into the race so we were left doing the bullocking work, he did a good job.”
Jamie Melham (Sabaj): “I’m happy enough, first up. They didn’t go hard in front and it was hard for them to run on but I was happy enough with him.”
James McDonald (Autumn Boy): “Thought his run was superb, he just hit a flat spot at the top of the straight and got going late, so a good run.”
Blake Shinn (Planet Red): “He ran a good race, first time at weight for age. Only got beat a couple of lengths from the placegetters, can improve up in trip. Good first up run.
Damian Lane (Treasurethe Moment): “She was good, she might’ve just peaked on her run a little bit, she travelled in like I was going to be really competitive then just sort of the last 200 metres just knocked up a touch, I think she’ll take good improvement from the run.”
