Bet Legends’ Shaun Beirne has two high-profile runners in his sights this Saturday, with Cosmic Crusader at Caulfield and Headwall at Randwick both looking vulnerable at their current prices.
As always, Beirne is prepared to take a position against the market, while Bet Legends has put up a special for punters who disagree with his assessment of Cosmic Crusader.
Caulfield Race 7 – Cosmic Crusader
Cosmic Crusader is an obvious winning chance, but Beirne believes the price is the issue in a race where the Chris Waller stable holds a particularly strong hand.
“The Waller trio (Birdman, Buckaroo and Lindermann) could trifecta the race and I think Lindermann quite probably should be favourite,” Beirne said.
“Lindermann’s figures are stronger than Cosmic Crusader’s. Not by much, but enough.”
There is no knock on Cosmic Crusader’s ability. He is a Group 1 winner and has already demonstrated he belongs at the top level, but Beirne expects the market to be willing to take him on.
“Cosmic Crusader is obviously talented and a Group 1 winner. The price angle is the big play here and I think he will be very soft.”

Randwick Race 9 – Headwall
Headwall is another runner Beirne is happy to oppose, believing a couple of his key rivals should be shorter in the market based on the figures.
“Happy to take this guy on,” Beirne said.
“Ninja and Joliestar should be shorter on the figures.”
Beirne believes the market is placing significant emphasis on Headwall being more forward for Saturday’s assignment than some of his rivals.
While he agrees that may well be the case, he questions whether the fitness advantage is enough to justify Headwall’s position in betting.
“The market is assuming too much that he is more up for this than his rivals. That is true, but it might only carry him so far.”
For Beirne, that makes Headwall another runner worth taking on at the current price.
