Punters are making their intentions clear ahead of a massive Saturday of racing, with TAB reporting significant support for several runners across Caulfield and Rosehill.
The Caulfield Guineas headlines a bumper Melbourne program featuring three Group 1 races, while Sydney’s Rosehill meeting is highlighted by the Group 2 Hill Stakes.
And while there have been some notable market moves across both states, it is Caulfield Guineas favourite Warwoven who has attracted a couple of sizeable wagers.
There was also plenty of action when markets first opened following final fields. You can catch up on Thursday’s TAB Market Movers report here.
Big bets: Warwoven attracts the big money
The market might have been relatively quiet at the top of Caulfield Guineas betting earlier in the week, but two punters have been happy to open their shoulders and back Warwoven.
TAB has reported two significant bets on the favourite:
- $5,000 on Warwoven at $2.20
- $3,000 on Warwoven at $2.10
Punters confident of Warwoven carrying his brilliant Golden Rose form to Caulfield and answering the all-important question about his ability to run a strong 1600m.
He has drawn barrier six, but the challenge of stepping up to the mile around Caulfield remains the great unknown. Those two punters clearly aren’t losing any sleep over it.
Melbourne market movers: Pinhole backed to land Herbert Power
There’s been plenty of action away from the Group 1 races at Caulfield, with three runners attracting significant support.
| Race | Runner | Opening | Current |
|---|---|---|---|
| Caulfield R4 #12 | Pinhole | $5.50 | $3.60 |
| Caulfield R2 #9 | Fiery Fun | $6.00 | $4.20 |
| Caulfield R5 #2 | Point Barrow | $3.50 | $2.80 |
Emerging Chris Waller-trained stayer Pinhole has been the standout mover in Melbourne, firming from $5.50 into $3.60 ahead of the Herbert Power Stakes.
The progressive galloper is looking to take another step up the staying ranks, with a Caulfield Cup ballot exemption on offer to the winner. Punters are clearly confident he can measure up, and the money has continued to arrive since markets first opened.
The Freedman stable has also attracted plenty of attention, with two of its promising gallopers backed into significantly shorter prices.
Fiery Fun, a promising filly with plenty of upside, has tightened from $6 into $4.20 in Race 2, while stablemate Point Barrow has been $3.50 into $2.80 in Race 5.
The latter is a mare renowned for her lethal turn of foot, which was on full display when she ran down Bridal Waltz last start. The pair clash again on Saturday, and punters are banking on Point Barrow producing that trademark acceleration once more.
Sydney market movers: Fierce leads the charge
It’s been an even more dramatic story at Rosehill, where three runners have been the subject of substantial betting moves.
| Race | Runner | Opening | Current |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rosehill R10 #9 | Fierce | $4.40 | $2.30 |
| Rosehill R6 #14 | Satono Glow | $4.60 | $2.60 |
| Rosehill R5 #11 | Chuchichaschtli | $6.00 | $3.30 |
Fierce has been the headline act, crunched from $4.40 into $2.30 in the final race. That’s a serious move, with the gelding now trading at almost half his opening quote. He was already well supported earlier in the week, but the money has continued to arrive.
One of the more interesting moves is Satono Glow, who was a winner at Flemington last start and has attracted strong support to make it back-to-back victories in the Roman Consul Stakes.
He’s been $4.60 into $2.60 despite drawing wide, with punters seemingly unconcerned by the tricky gate or the presence of Paradoxium, who has drawn ideally in barrier two.
It’s shaping as one of the most intriguing betting contests on the Rosehill card, with the money suggesting Satono Glow is more than capable of overcoming his awkward draw.
Meanwhile, Chuchichaschtli has also been the subject of sustained support, firming from $6 into $3.30 in Race 5.
The promising filly made an impressive winning debut over Love Story, and that form received a timely boost when Love Story won at Randwick Kensington on Wednesday. Punters have wasted little time identifying the formline, with Chuchichaschtli among the best-backed runners on the program.
Plenty of early market action
These latest moves follow a busy opening to betting earlier in the week, when several runners were heavily supported immediately after final fields were released.
At Caulfield, Jigsaw, Gas Station Rosie and In’kantostar were among those attracting early money, while the Rosehill program saw significant support for Force March, Ocean Tsunami and Lindermann.
With betting continuing to heat up ahead of Saturday, the latest TAB figures suggest punters have identified some strong opinions across both meetings.
