TAB Market Movers: Group 1 stars headline Saturday as punters find their targets

Early shopper have been busy with big moves at Caulfield and Rosehill ahead of a huge Saturday featuring three Group 1s in Melbourne.

Final fields are locked in for a huge Saturday of racing, with three Group 1s at Caulfield and the Hill Stakes headlining the Rosehill card.

The Caulfield Guineas, Toorak Handicap and Might And Power Stakes provide the Group 1 action in Melbourne, although betting on the majors has been relatively subdued since barriers were released. Punters have instead gone hunting elsewhere on a deep Caulfield card, with several runners heavily backed since final-field markets opened.

In Sydney, Lindermann continues to tighten his grip on the Hill Stakes market, while there have been some significant moves at bigger prices across the Rosehill program.

Guineas favourites hold their ground

There hasn’t been a huge amount of activity in the Caulfield Guineas since the barrier draw, with Warwoven holding favouritism at $2.15 after landing gate six.

Blind Raise is next at $3.50 and looks to have drawn ideally in barrier two.

The Toorak Handicap is a completely different betting proposition, with Regal Award and Lady Shenandoah sharing favouritism at $6 in a wide-open market.

Again, there hasn’t been an avalanche of money since acceptances, although Warnie has attracted some interest at odds, firming from $13 into $9.

The Might And Power Stakes market is far more straightforward.

Sheza Alibi is a prohibitively short $1.35 favourite as she looks to continue her outstanding spring, with Birdman the clear second elect at $3.70.

Jimmysstar’s little brother attracts attention

The bigger moves at Caulfield have come away from the Group 1s.

In’kantostar, a full brother to Group 1 star Jimmysstar, is building his own impressive picket fence and punters think he can add another win in the opener. He has been backed from $5.50 into $4.

Just Desserts has also been strongly supported in the race, shortening from $6.50 into $4.20.

Race 2 brings together a stack of promising fillies and two at double-figure prices have been targeted.

Gas Station Rosie, trained by Alex Rae, has been smashed from $17 into $8, while the Reece Goodwin-trained Roseatic has halved in price from $15 into $8. Roseatic looks one of the likely on-speed influences in what shapes as an intriguing contest.

Surfin’ Bird was an explosive winner the last time she visited Caulfield and heads betting for Race 3, but punters have found one at odds. Perfect Ten has shortened from $15 into $9.50.

Cup ticket on the line as Pinhole firms

A Caulfield Cup berth is up for grabs in the Herbert Power Stakes and Pinhole has been backed to grab it.

He opened $5.50 and is now the $4 favourite for Race 4.

Nick Ryan’s Suntora was another early mover, backed from $21 into $13, although some of that support has since unwound and she is back out to $17.

Point Barrow produced a devastating turn of foot to win last start and punters wasted little time taking the $3.50 available after final fields. She is now $2.80 and sits narrowly behind $2.70 favourite Bridal Waltz.

It sets up a fascinating rematch after Point Barrow ran down Bridal Waltz last time, with the pair dominating betting.

Jigsaw crunched after drawing the pole

Group 1 winner Jigsaw was already popular in all-in betting for the Schillaci Stakes and the money has continued following the final field and barrier draw.

Jigsaw landed barrier one and has firmed sharply from $3.60 into $2.40.

Spywire has also attracted some specking at a much bigger price, shortening from $26 into $16.

Lindermann keeps shortening in Sydney

The Lindermann train hasn’t stopped since final-field betting opened for the Hill Stakes.

He was smashed in all-in markets and the support has continued, firming from $2.10 into $1.90.

The market has gone the other way with Attrition, who has drifted significantly from $4.60 to $7.

Punters are prepared to give Militarize another chance to break his long winning drought, backing him from $8 into $5.50, while King Pedro has attracted interest at a price, shortening from $26 into $15.

The Alan Brown Stakes is wide open at $6.50 the field, with Gringotts, Headley Grange and Sepals sharing favouritism.

Sepals has been backed from $8 into $6.50 after drawing barrier 11, while Lady Shenandoah, who is also engaged in the Toorak Handicap at Caulfield, has firmed from $11 into $7.50.

A mouthful and a plunge at Rosehill

There’s been no shortage of action elsewhere on the Rosehill card.

Magic Moments opened $15 for the first and has been backed into $9.50, while Force March has been the subject of a huge move after consecutive wins at Muswellbrook and Scone. Punters snapped up $51 and he is now just $17.

Ocean Tsunami has been strongly supported to win the TAB Highway Handicap in Race 2, firming from $11 all the way into $6 favouritism. Costalivin has also attracted money, shortening from $11 into $7.50.

Barrengarry has met with solid support in Race 3 and now heads betting after firming from $4.60 into $3.40.

In the Gloaming Stakes, Genesis Runner has been backed from $6 into $4.40 and sits just behind $4 favourite Proxima Dea.

Then there’s Chuchichaschtli.

The name might be a mouthful, but punters have had no trouble finding her in the Tapp-Craig.

She has been one of the best-backed runners anywhere on Saturday, crunched from $6 into $3.10 following an impressive debut victory over Love Story. That form received a timely boost when Love Story won at Randwick Kensington on Wednesday afternoon.

The Roman Consul Stakes shapes as one of the races of the day. Paradoxium has drawn beautifully in gate two and heads the market at $2.50, but Satono Glow has been the best-backed runner despite landing barrier 10, firming from $4.60 into $3.

In the last, Fierce is a solid $3.40 favourite after opening $4.40, while second emergency Half Pipe has been backed from $11 into $6.50.
