Baker says Cox Plate win would make Warwoven his greatest horse

Bjorn Baker says a Cox Plate victory could make Warwoven the best horse he's trained, while Rachel King is confident the $4.40 favourite can beat the older stars.

Golden Rose and Caulfield Guineas hero Warwoven isn’t the best horse Bjorn Baker has had – yet.

That could change on Saturday.

“If he beats the older horses in the Cox Plate, then there will be no question he is the best horse I have had anything to do with,” Baker said.

“What he has had in the Golden Rose and the Caulfield Guineas has been remarkable, but he has to step again on Saturday, and we are confident he will again.

“You try not to put too much expectation on your horses, but he is making it hard not to get excited.”

Warwoven was into a $4.40 Cox Plate favourite, usurping proven weight-for-age warriors Aeliana and Sir Delius at the top of the betting on Wednesday.

Baker believes the 2040m will not be a problem for his colt, who was the strongest late in the Caulfield Guineas.

“His mother was a Group 2 winner at 2000m, and he is so relaxed he will just enjoy the extra trip,” Baker said.

“He has always had speed and still has it as he gets up in trip and where it can be much more effective.

“There is going to be more pressure in the Cox Plate, but one of his greatest strengths is absorbing pressure and still being able to find that extra gear.”

Having Rachel King able to stay with Warwoven is another bonus in Baker’s eyes.

“I don’t think I’ve see a horse and rider get on as well as Rachel and Warwoven,” Baker said. “When you are three-year-old with a light weight in the Cox Plate you often have to change riders, but Rachel can stay with him, which is a big advantage for us.

“She knows him and knows what he can do and when you talk to her about him, you get more excited.”

King already has Warwoven as the best horse she has ridden and is confident she is on the best horse in the Cox Plate.

“He was always a bit special, but every time he steps out he is getting better,” King said. “He can just adapt to how races with his attitude and he just fills me with confidence.

“He is very exciting, and I can’t wait to see what he does against the big guns.”guns.”
