Race 1 – 1:14PM WHITEMAN WELDING MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)
Maiden over 1000m. 4 debutants against 5 with race experience in the field of 9. We’ve seen pace from PENNY’S GAL and DIFENSIVO and they look the two most prominent to take up the running.
We have a short priced favourite in the form of #4 VITTOZZI who is odds on at the time of preview. She has been in the market at all three career runs and shown ability, without winning. The filly was a little plain first up over 1100m, albeit a touch wide but she put in a much improved run at this track and distance last start, finishing second. No doubt she has the talent to win a race like this but we are leaning to a couple of debutants here at better value.
#5 HIDDEN STAR goes on top. This daughter of star turn has put in two impressive trials leading into her debut today. Really liked the way she hit the line in a Wyong trial over 845m on November 10 and that should see her be ready to make her presence felt here today. Market and parade might be a bit of a guide with a bit of a gap between that trial and race day but she has already been met with solid market support which is a positive lead. Barrier 2 should see her get a lovely run in transit and happy to back her around $4.
The other debutant of interest is #7 SHEZA’S DESTINY, especially now she has drifted $6+. This filly trialled nicely at Scone over the 900m, again finding the line well. Weir stays on board from that trial and the filly looks a leading chance and good value now.
Suggested Bet:
#5 HIDDEN STAR (WIN) $4, smaller #7 SHEZA’S DESTINY (WIN) $6.
