Michelle Ritchie gave up her trainer’s licence at the beginning of the season, but she has already found a new best friend in Where’s The Circus.
The Trapeze Artist filly shocked many as a $51 outsider in Saturday’s Inglis Nursery but not Ritchie, who had gifted him to her partner Paul Murray to train.
“He is just lucky I gave it away and gave him a good horse,” Ritchie said. “I told him she was pretty good.”
Ritchie had trained Where’s The Circus’ half-sister Can’t Find Snippy, and when one of her owners found this filly on the Inglis Digital platform, she agreed to buy her.
“He said to me you can’t give it away if we buy her. It took two bids and we had her at $1250,” Ritchie said. “But when she arrived she was just a rogue. We couldn’t get near her.”
“I spent the first week getting her to trust me, and the next month we became best friends.”
“She went down to the farm at Berry, and it was obvious she was pretty smart.”
“I told Paul that and now he has to put up with me being an owner with some idea.”
Where’s The Circus jumped to the front and streeted her rivals by 1-1/4 lengths from $2.70 favourite Internal Affairs, with Regal Hustle a short neck back in third.

Ritchie said they hadn’t planned beyond Saturday with Where’s The Circus, who has not been entered for the Golden Slipper. However the Inglis Millennium, which is worth $2 million, will come into focus.
“We will have a few drinks tonight and then have to think what to do,” Ritchie said. “The Millennium is in February, that makes sense, but we are going to enjoy this first.”
