How good is spring racing!
Things are starting to heat up down south and there are a few races that have got my attention. Here are a few I think we can have something on away from Doomben. No big value this week but I feel they should all be right in the finish.
Flemington Race 2 (12) Somethings Burnin’ $4.50
This is a nice one in the making. Comes out of much weaker races than the other main chances but everything says to me he’s a very good colt. Showed a good turn of foot to win a maiden fresh (6th best L400m of the day). Last start was held up horribly most of the straight and got out too late to win (still run the best L200m of the day). Wallers always improve with racing and ready to show best 3rd up on the big Flemington track.
Flemington Race 9 (1) Salty Pearl $5.50/$1.90
Not the type of price I’d usually back e/w but if we get $2 a place, she looks a bet for sure. I have no doubt she is the best horse in the race and she was more than a pass mark there. It looked decent but she ran the 2nd best L400m and 200m of that race. She has placed in her three runs 2nd up and ran 3rd in a Group 2 race at her only run this track. The gate is just a touch tricky, with any luck early she will run a heck of a race. I’d love them to sort of tag the fav who will be on speed and drawn outside her, be a bit more positive.
Flemington Race 10 (13) Storm leopard $3.20
Yes I’d rather he’d have had one more run and I’d rather a better gate. Want some positives now? He has all the upside. His fresh run on a leader bias track was excellent and strong through the line. I like the booking of Williams and he just needs to find the right run and not go all the way back to near last. Three wide with cover would be find and get on the back of the train when they take off.
Gold Coast Race 6 (2) Mishani Witness
Really well placed in a CL3 set weights race with the claim. In saying that, I think it’s a poor choice as her only ride on the horse was plain. Just put a senior on and make a moral of it! Anyway, he was a dominant winner two runs back at Ipswich in a bm62 and just a class above there. Last start he went to a no metrop win race and jumped well before nothing went right and ended up too far back. Was last at the 300m before being strong through the line and beaten under 2L.
