What a weekend of racing. Doesn’t get any better than Derby Day at headquarters. For mine it’s the best day of the racing year.
Flemington Race 3 No.5 Caballus ($3.50 bet365)
Was backed straight away and understandable. The trials this time in have been exceptional. No idea why they got so far back at Randwick but the late splits were awesome and the draw here should be OK. Might be able to grab the back of Star PatrolL. The $4.60 was juicy opening but still backable.
Flemington Race 6 No.10 Beadman ($5 bet365)
Some trainers are just better with colts than others and Snowden has looked after this bloke a treat. Everything has been aimed at this since the 8.3L demolition job on the Gold Coast. He was good fresh and then a good thing beaten without luck last start. Final piece of the puzzle was the trial down the straight and went like a bomb. Gotta get past two good ones in Beiwacht and Tentyris but he’s got the ability to do just that.
Flemington Race 7 – Derby Trifecta
1 – 3,6,9,17 – 3,6,9,17
Think the favourite, Observer, has this field covered so standing him out to win in a trifecta to try and extract some value from the race. Think the two behind him from the Vase have a good hope of running into the placings.
The Vase | Observer
Observer, he’s relentless 😤 Mark Zahra eases him up with 50 metres to go for an arrogant victory.

Roughie: Flemington Race 9 No.14 Flying For Fun ($20)
Hasn’t got the class of the faves but has a few things going her way. Feel they have worked out riding midfield or worse is the way to get best out of her. Comes here 3rd up and ready to show best. Draws wide and feel that may well be the place to be this time of the day. Worth thoughts in quaddie anyway. Same deal for Photograph if it rains, she excels in the wet and is a bet if the rain comes.
