Turf Talk:
- Rail true with southerly winds at Ballarat generally sees those horses on speed advantaged.
- Big spacious track with a lovely 1200m sprint chute.
- Fine weather but only 19 degrees, so with an overnight dew expect the track to remain a Good 4.

Race 1
Two key chances.
John Symons and Sheila Laxon have found there groove in Victoria ant Il Patrigno is going to be hard to beat. He went out a huge price at Sandown last start but ran a massive race, beating home subsequent winners Ten Warriors and the most impressive On The Prowl. Everything he’s done inn two runs this campaign suggests the little step to 1400m is ideal and he should have a tactical edge on his main rival.
The danger is (8) Le Beau Gosse. Trialled nicely prior to his debut where he was well backed at Warrnambool. Slow out, got a mile back, huge late – it was a massive debut. Like Willie Gordon raking over and suspect he can push more forward second up.
Suggested bet: Happy to level stake Il Patrigno/Le Beau Gosse – think one of the two win.
Race 2
Doesn’t look huge speed for a 1000m contest.
Blinkers went back on Aqueduct for the first time this campaign last start and he went like a rocket. Think they’ve worked out he’s really a 1000m horse and this race looks ideal. Going to need a good ride from 3kg claimer Olivia East who will likely be bailed away on the fence, but provided he gets clean air he’s the one they have to beat.
Liked the intent from (12) Endless Forever in recent jump-outs. Has transferred from Michael to Robert Hickmott and this looks a set play first up. Has had a decent spell but has shown plenty of talent in three runs in SA. Suspect they ride aggressively in a race there doesn’t look huge speed.
Charlotte Littlefield is coming off a double at Pakenham last night and she saddles up (6) Yes We Are who broke the 1000m track record at Sale fresh last campaign. He has jumped-out nicely for this and can sit right on speed.
Suggested bet: Backing Aqueduct/Endless Forever. Quinella 1,6,12.

Race 7
The feature. And they have a lovely straight run out of the sprint chute before they get to the home bend.
Speed comes from (1) Mornington Glory, (3) Recommendation, (9) Don’t Hope Do, maybe (11) Philosopher (although he’s mixing his patterns these days). Tempo will be strong enough.
Loved the jump-out work of (6) Coleman. He hasn’t won for a long time and has moved from Matt Laurie to Chris Waller and now Clint McDonald, having clearly had issue. But, his two jump-outs this time in have been super, he’s looked good in his action and has worked through the line strongly in each. Think he might be back to something like his best and one run in the spring down the straight was quite good.
A number of these contested the Oakleigh Plate and I thought the best of those was (4) She’s Bulletproof who was chopped out late when making ground. She was no match for Jigsaw last start but that’s far from shameful given how well he’s going. Gets a perfect run up near the speed and Charlotte seems to have her stable firing.
(10) Press Down was good first up for the Chambers yard when lumping a big weight at Flemington. Best of this horse would see him competitive with a big weight drop.
(5) Spywire has trialled nicely between runs, gun jockey up and has the ratings in the locker to win this.
(7) Geegees Mistruth couldn’t have drawn worse in gate one but with even luck is in the game.
Race doesn’t end there.
Suggested bet: Backing She’s Bulletproof/Coleman
