Craig WIlliams took out the 2026 All-Star Mile with Tom Kitten, hear from the beaten jockeys:
Jamie Melham (Antino): “Disappointing, he did not want to play today. He didn’t jump once again, but then he was just sucking back the whole way, so he didn’t want to be there.”
Luke Currie (Evaporate): “He ran great, put himself in the race, in for the fight and just got beaten by a better one.”
John Allen (Steparty): “He went super, nearly got the back of the winner early, I think it was Willie Pike inside us just forced up inside us and kept us three wide, so I think with a bit more of a resting run he’d have gone very close.”
William Pike (Watch Me Rock): “The vets just confirmed he had a cardiac arrhythmia, so it’s a bit of a shame.”
Beau Mertens (Sabaj): “He’s run enormous today, he really peeled through like the winner at the back of Tom Kitten, there was a little run and he had a bit of a think to go through but once he got through, he really lengthened nicely, once he gets to 2000 he’s going to be very good.”
Declan Bates (Pride Of Jenni): “Disappointed not to get the win, but in terms of her, I feel like she’s run a really massive race. It sort of went to plan, I was able to sort of build slowly to the top and when I got there I tried to ramp it up pretty much from the thousand. I felt like she was going as quick as she could go basically but I just wasn’t quite able to put them away. When the first two sort of quickened to my outside she was really tough because when they went by me I felt like she was going to run fifth or sixth but she’s just so tough and she was actually really good through the line, so not happy with the result but really happy with the horse.”
Hugh Bowman (Stefi Magnetica): “She’s all heart, but she was just inclined to travel a bit strongly throughout, I mean it was a pretty strong gallop and she was still racing keenly and finished accordingly.”
Jye McNeil (Leica Lucy): “Obviously it’s really hard to make ground today so from our position, I thought it was a good, honest run for further in the Australian Cup.”
