Desert Lightning won a classic Goodwood – hear from the beaten jockeys:
Chad Schofield (Enriched): “He travelled perfectly, but he just never finished it off.”
Ben Melham (Grand Larceny): “Terrific run. Really happy with his performance.
Jason Holder (Watchme Win): “I thought I was the winner on the corner, he presented himself beautifully, just with the rain we’ve had, I don’t think he likes a soft track, so he’s better on a good track, and he’s probably better really fresh as well, so we’ll see what happens.
Jacob Opperman (Super Smink): “I thought she was brave. Had to come from a fair way back and was probably just playing a little bit leader bias, I thought she was brave still, so an honest run.”
Luke Currie (Tycoon Star): “He got over from that wide draw without doing too much, but it probably told on the line.”
Patrick Moloney (Recon): “Bloody stiff. I thought I was battling a long way out on the back of Extragalactic. I thought foreign ground for him, he was a little bit tested when the sprint came on, but what I loved was how he was able to rebound out of it. There was a clear run for me at the top of the straight between the winner and the second horse. and I didn’t want to deviate my course. Unfortunately, once I had the full revs up, that last sort of fifty yards, they slammed the door shut on him, and I wasn’t able to fully test him. He should have definitely run in the top three and it just shows this horse is on the way up, and he’s up to this class.”
Chris Parnham (Meridius): “He probably ran better than what it looked like. He had to get a long way back. Drawing barrier one wasn’t really ideal for him. So, once we’re that far back, we were probably just out of the race.”
Will Price (Power Beau): “He held his own, he did everything right, got into his natural role, travelled beautifully, quickened up well, that was obviously a pretty good field.”
Daniel Stackhouse (Midtown Boss): “He ran well, his second run after a year off, didn’t disgrace himself, so back in grade and he can run well.”
Zac Lloyd (Flying For Fun): “I had the back of Extragalactic after the first film and I was very happy, but I was copping a bit of pressure on my outside so I had to give up that spot and then we’re riding for a bit of luck on horses that are all much of a much so it’s always going to be hard. So, she’s gone well, but I do think she never liked the going.”
Kayla Crowther (New York Lustre): “Superb run. Not beaten far at all. Had a dream run where we were. Maybe just wish we could have been a little bit wider in the straight, but rapt with her.”
Lucy Fiore (Talkanco): “Great run, just from the gate couldn’t quite get out to where she needed to be and probably looking for 1400 but really great run.”
Luke Cartwright (Extragalactic): “Super run team. She began away well, they rubbed along a little bit — I thought — and just at her top, once she saw clear air, she was obviously super. I actually thought I got it out there but… unfortunately, just another close second, but for this horse to go from what it did earlier to now, she’s a serious horse.”
