Turf Talk:
- Horsham is a tight little track.
- There’s a sharp bend up at the 800m mark and they start turning again 400m from home, ultimately coming into a short home straight.
- Given the track characteristics, its rarely a disadvantage to be on speed.
- Need to keep an eye on forecast raceday rain which could have a significant bearing on racing.
Race 1
Dynamite Dancer was slow out on debut but that wasn’t a trait through his lead-up jump-outs; he had generally been jumping much better. With Yendall jumping aboard today, suspect he will be roused out of the gates and settle much handier. He was luckless there at Warrnambool when heavily backed at his first start, in a much stronger race than what he contests today. Extra 100m is ideal and with even luck think he wins.
There are holes in the strength of Burleigh’s form and think he is helping to make a market. Keen to oppose.
Suggested bet: Even luck, I think Dynamite Dancer wins, and think he starts favourite.
Race 6
Jade Smith’s 3kg claim is a luxury at the moment – she’s a promising apprentice. She rides The Mariner here, a horse she’s building a good association with having ridden him four times for two wins and a second. His recent record when he finds the front is outstanding and back in this sort of grade with Smith’s claim, he’s going to prove awfully hard to run down. Any rain would be a benefit.
Suggested bet: Backing The Mariner E/W at $9.
Race 7
Charities trialled nicely leading into this campaign before having absolutely no luck at Donald first up. She draws inside here, which should allow Johnny Allen to use the gate and drive up behind what looks a strong speed – likely to be set by Take The Prize and French Love. Really like how Charities has come back and with an ideal setup here she should prove awfully hard to beat.
Chilli Reaper comes through the same formline as Charities and she, too, was very good. She won’t be far away. Meanwhile, Take The Prize is racing very well and can give a sight up on speed.
Suggested bet: Backing Charities at $6.50.
