Turf talk:
- Rail out 1m, as it has been at four of the past five meetings
- Track has played pretty well in recent meetings, if anything horses have been better served slightly off the fence.
- Kyneton is a tight-turning track, with a short home straight. Key is to build momentum well before they hit the home straight.
- They’ve put plenty of irrigation on which is always a watching brief, but going to be dealing with a firming Good 4.
Race 4
Rattle’n’roll looks the horse to beat. He has trialled up well for this return, settling on speed and running time. Teo rode him in both trials this time in and has got him out of the barriers well on each occasion – which is important being drawn out today. Form through his last campaign is excellent – the Moe maiden he ran third in first up produced six subsequent winners, some of them having won multiple times. He looks to have come back well and with even luck he can break his maiden today.
Good Boy Carlo seems well over the odds at 50/1. He was well beaten into third at Ballarat first up but think plenty of horses are going to be well beaten by Faraway Dream, and they ran quicker time than the BM62 which was race eight on a firming deck. Carlo has since been back to the jump-outs and moved nicely. He has the advantage of using an inside draw to hold a spot on speed and suspect he can outrun his huge price.

Race 10
Think there are two key winning hopes.
Star Diesel is returning off a long spell but jump-outs suggest he has come back in fine fettle. His form since joining Toby Lake’s stable has been good, including a win at this track and trip carrying the same 62kg her carries here. Draws the inside, which by this stage of the day we will know if it’s an advantage or disadvantage, but he can use the draw to settle just behind what looks a good speed.
Viasain goes well fresh. His jump-out alongside Rewards And More at Mornington was satisfactory. He will get back, but the strong speed should bring him into play late. Jamie Mott knows him well. Deserves to be favourite.
Suggested bet: Can get $7 and $3.20 about Star Diesel and Viasain – think one of the two win and happy to back both to win the same amount.
