Betsy’s Best: Seymour

Turf talk:

Hot day, plenty of artificial water on the track to start it a Good 4 (10mm yesterday), which means we need to be wary of any pattern that may create.
Seymour is a nicely laid out track with a beautiful sprint chute for shorter distance races.
As the track dries out, wouldn’t be surprised if on-speed is an advantage.

Race 3

This is a terrific race for Dihheri who gets quickly from 1100m to 1400m at her second start. She was good behind Lady Verity on debut at Geelong, in what looked a strong maiden (winner has since won again). She settled off speed there but she showed tactical speed in jump-outs prior to her debut and from gate one expect them to roll forward.

Blue Typhoon look a big price at 30/1. He was super late first up at Ararat and then had no luck at Kyneton when stopped in his tracks at a crucial stage. Another who looks suited rising in trip.

Race 4

Bold Suitor was scratched from this but suspect he was close to a good thing, keep an eye out for wherever he steps out.

Havana Moon trialled super prior to her Donald debut where she was trapped off the track from a wide draw. Has barrier three here which should see her settle on speed without spending a penny. She’s clearly the horse to beat.

If they’re able to run on, Smash Blue looks the danger. Showed good talent last campaign and has jumped-out nicely this time in.

To date, Gold Thunder has trialled like Black Caviar, raced like Vote For Lust (google if not aware). He has again trialled well and if he can bring his dawn work to the races he can win, I just want to see it first.

Race 6

Healing Frequency had plenty of excuses in a hot race at Pakenham last start (already three subsequent winners and a second placing form four runners to subsequently run). Her debut win at the same track was excellent and blinkers go on for the first time here – she’s the horse to beat and I think he’s more like a $2.50 pop.

Kowhai has a bad habit of missing the kick but she’s got the talent to win a race like this. Got a mile out of her ground first up at 100om but worked home in some of the day’s best late splits. She won second up off 48 days last campaign, comes into this off 35 days, so not concerned about the gab between runs. 1400m ideal. Home track.

Race 7

Good race.

Jamie Melham comes out for one ride on Albertville. He has trialled up well, the little knock I have is I think he’s more an 1100/1200m horse and gate one could be a touch sticky as doubt he leads. He can absolutely win, just think $2 is too short.

Yolo looks a great bet. He has been gelded and actually comes through the same jump-out as Albertville where, if anything, he looked to go a touch better. He is a 1000m horse. He does have an apprentice in Zoe Waller in the saddle, but she has had a sit on the horse in a jump-out (and I’d assume trackwork). With 53.5kg on his back, he’s going to be awfully hard to beat.
