Turf Talk:

  • First meeting at Stawell since April when their Cup was called off due to issues with the track.
  • Reasonably fair track, Stawell, but as it dries out it’s an edge to be on speed, as it is at most tracks.

Key Stats:

  • Not surprisingly, Linda Meech rides Stawell very well, she has a strike rate of 21.9% here at home.

Race 3

Tipped/backed TUPAC first up when he was well supported before having absolutely no luck at Ballarat. He wore blinkers for the first time there and went very well, he just never saw daylight! He would’ve won that race with any sort of clean air, and that’s the same race the current favourite BIG SISTER AVA comes through. No doubt the latter will relish 2000m, but so will Tupac, and frankly, I think he’s a better horse.

Drawn out, but they have a good run down the home straight before they start turning and expect Will Gordon to be positive on him. He’s not favourite, I think he should be.

Suggested bet: Backing Tupac

Race 7

SOUTHERN CRESCENT has probably under-delivered on her promise to date but she won’t find a better chance to post her second win than this race. She has had a short spell and trialled nicely for this return. She got out to 1400m and a mile at the end of her last two campaigns but her best runs have been at 1100/1200m. She gets an in-form Jack Hill in the saddle (18 winners from his last 100 rides) and drawing off the fence is ideal for this mare.

Suggested bet: Black figures ($2+) about Southern Crescent appeals.
