Turf Talk:
- Like punting at Wangaratta, it’s generally a very fair track which gives all horses their fair chance.
- Track has gone up to a Heavy 8 after plenty of rainfall over the weekend. Expect the inside to hold up early and maybe chop out as the day goes on.
- The 1170m start is from a chute off the home bend, they have just one turn to navigate.
- 1400/1590m starts have long, straight runs into the bend.
Race 5 No.5 Sheer Lunacy, smaller No.1 Ataegina
Wet deck suits this bloke, as does a senior rider jumping aboard.
He has had little luck in his past few starts and he probably should’ve won at Benalla four back. He raced very well on wet tracks over the winter months and striking a heavy deck today is ideal. He’s drawn a good marble to have a few behind him and with clean air from the home bend onwards he can finish over the top of them.
Ataegina looks the other main winning hope. Forgive last start where she got too keen, dropping back in trip is ideal and she drops markedly in grade here.
La Rosetta looks under the odds. I thought her trials prior to a poor first up run were ‘fair at best’.
Betting suggestion: Level staking Sheer Lunacy and Ataegina, so have the former going for a much better result.
Race 8 No.6 Sub Gauge
Looks reasonable speed here. Sub Gauge should settle just off the strong enough tempo and think he can finish over the top of them. He signalled he had come back well this campaign with two really nice jump-outs leading in. Since then he was forced to the inferior ground first up at Kilmore when runner up and then too strong for them in a higher-rating BM56 at Warrnambool last start. Loves the sting out of the ground.
Betting suggestion: Backing Sub Gauge
