Early quaddie (races 2,3,4,5) : 9 // 5,7 // 10 // 1
Turf Talk:
- Rail out 3m, as it has been throughout the spring at Yarra Valley.
- Tight-turning track that generally favours those on speed.
- Should be a nice, firm deck after warm weather Thursday into Friday.
- Keep an eye on the first couple of races to see if any pattern emerges with plenty of artificial water having been applied.
Race 1
Thought Meech went too slowly on Big Star in the mid stages at Mornington. She wouldn’t have won, but probably finishes closer in what was a strong maiden. From gate one, she can control things out to the 1200m, a distance she has had no issues with previously. Trialled super for Lachie King prior to her first up run and he jumps back in the saddle today. This is a weaker race than what she contested last start.
Maynard has had excuses in each run to date and now gets a tongue tie applied, which suggests they’re on top of an issue. Think she’s suited out to 1200m.
Suggested bet: Backing Big Star – the $3.20 at bet365 appeals.
Race 2
Prestige Ka Ying drew out and went back first up over 1000m at Mornington. Hit the line strongly there having jumped-out well prior. Step to 1200m here is ideal and the fact he only had one jump-out this campaign should see him strip significantly fitter.
Suggested bet: Backing Prestige Ka Ying.
Race 5
Speed comes form The Carillo, Artful Lodger and maybe Remember Poppy.
Really like Barnage. He is going to get a lovely run on the back of the speed. Three impressive jump-outs should have him ready to go first up off a decent spell. Has been to Yarra Valley once for a win and his best ratings are the clear benchmark in this race. 1000m ideal and to cap it off gets a 3kg claim for Jade Smith, an apprentice I’ve got a lot of time for.
Suggested bet: Keen Barnage. Can get $3 at bet365 which is attractive.
