Favourites win plenty of races. But the real thrill, and often the real value, lies in finding the one the market hasn’t fully caught up with.
Betsy’s Bolters, proudly supported by Unibet, is our weekly search for punting gold. We dive deep into the replays, sectionals and market profiles to uncover runners flying under the radar, horses sitting at double-figure odds but with far more upside than their price suggests.
These aren’t wild darts. They’re calculated swings at big prices.

Doomben – Blair Gibson
Race 2 No.13 Diamond Epic ($12/$3.50)
(13) Diamond Epic will be much better for the last start effort. Might want 1800m now but can land midfield from this draw and be one of the strongest late. Best L200m in 4 of her last 6 and could be the value in a good race.
Scone – Dean Watling
Race 6 No.5 Durova ($15/$4.40)
We are getting a nice price for (5) Durova here, and she looks deserving of a crack at this level based on the way she has been racing. Seven wins from 13 starts is a strong record anywhere, and her only attempt over this trip resulted in a win. She looks more than capable of taking this out.
Morphettville Parks – Mitch Lewis
Race 4 No.1 Justa Star ($16/$4)
This race maps to have little early speed in it which could potentially set (1) Justa Star to get the run of the race out in front from a low barrier. His form has been moderate so far this prep but he drops in grade, remains at a distance where he has a good record and is fit third-up. If he gets his own way out in front he may prove hard to catch.
Flemington – Matt Welsh
Race 2 No.16 Soldier Boi ($31/$8)
(16) Soldier Boi has a chance at huge odds. He’s going to get the best run you’ve seen, right on the back of the speed. Liked his first up was at Geelong, where he defeated a subsequent winner and showed that 2000m would be right up his alley. He’s on the quick back up from Ballarat last Sunday where he sat deep but kept grinding away to the line in a handy BM62.
Race 8 No.8 Losesomewinmore ($9)
(8) Losesomewinmore looks a good E/W bet at $12 +. Loves the straight track here at Flemington and happy to totally forgive his fresh run when getting back from a wide draw. Drawn ideally out wide on the track.
