Randwick – Mitch Lewis
Race 6 No.1 Declichy Boulevard ($20/$5.50)
If we see the best form of (1) Declichy Boulevard, she could prove tough to beat. She was contesting Group level races in her last prep, but the risk is that was a long time ago and she is coming in off a long break. It will take a big performance from her to win off the extended break, but the price is there to take the chance to find out.
(5) Mafia has found super form in his last few runs, including a last-start win in a similar race. He maps for an ideal run up on speed from the inside barrier and looks a big price for a runner who appears to be in career best form and well suited.
Sandown – Matt Welsh
Race 1 No.9 Nightingale Lass ($14/$3.40)
Loved the Goulburn trial of (9) Nightingale Lass. She did everything so professionally, belting her rivals in much quicker time than the open heat on the same day. She’s drawn perfectly to settle just off a hot tempo and think she will be strong at the end of 1000m.
Race 2 No.2 Mission Of Love ($23/$5.50)
Been following (2) Mission Of Love through her campaign. She had no luck first-up before hitting the line strongly in the Centaurea at Morphettville last time out. Ready for the 2400m now third-up and should strip significantly fitter again having come into this campaign off a long spell.
Race 5 No.12 Per Sempre ($12/$3.50)
(12) Per Sempre never runs a bad race. She got a mile back on a track you wanted to be handier at Caulfield last time out. Wide draw is ideal for her, she will get back and rip home strongly. Gun 1000m horse.
Race 6 No.11 Gold Topaz ($41/$9.50)
(11) Gold Topaz will be well suited around the Hillside layout. A colt that gets back in his races, he didn’t have much luck first-up at Caulfield when forced way back to the inferior ground. A mile second-up is ideal.
Race 9 No.2 Windstorm ($18) & No.13 Mometz ($11)
The last time (2) Windstorm was down in BM84 grade he was a 1400m winner at Caulfield. He was given no hope last time out, settling a mile back and being forced back to the inferior ground, but his run was full of merit. Goes well third-up. He’s clearly nearing the twilight of his career, but there seems to be some life left in the old boy and he can give the up-and-comers something to beat.
(13) Mometz ran one of the best last sections you’ll ever see at Flemington last start. Never got a crack at them, going to the line under a huge hold. He was eight weeks between runs and will strip fitter. Going to get back and be buried away, but he’s proven he doesn’t mind going between horses and taking tight runs. Strong speed suits.
