Summary of Best Bets:
Race 1 No.4 Cannae
Race by race overview
Race 1:
(4) Cannae attracted strong market support on debut in a quality Maiden, suggesting there’s a good opinion of him. He was excellent, producing the meeting’s fastest 400–200m split adjusted for distance. Damian Lane enhances his prospects, and he should settle prominently. I have him marked inside 6/4.
(7) Sunburnt Country impressed on resumption, running to a new peak, and profiles to settle on speed.
(1) Peeaitchdee resumes and may find a few of these too sharp first-up. Her current price looks short.
(9) Washington Lilac made a solid return last start and remains open to improvement.
Selections:
(4) Cannae
(7) Sunburnt Country
(1) Peeaitchdee
(9) Washington Lilac
Suggested Bet: Win (4) Cannae
Race 2:
(9) En Flique was well held by Figlio D’Argento at Sandown, but that reads as strong form for this grade.
(5) Contaldo debuts for Gavin Bedggood and, at his best, is capable of winning a race of this quality.
(7) Storm Ahead is racing consistently this preparation and should acquit himself well again.
Selections:
(9) En Flique
(5) Contaldo
(7) Storm Ahead
Race 3:
(3) Shinjina is clearly the most accomplished runner in the field, but six furlongs presents enough of a query for me to avoid the current price.
(7) Fast ’N’ Inzaine finished strongly to break his maiden over five furlongs at Sandown.
(6) Eco Force needs to improve, though that’s plausible returning to six furlongs fourth-up.
(2) Fundamental Nature won on debut in slow time. His sectionals were sound, but from a ratings perspective, he’ll need to lift, which is entirely possible.
Selections:
(3) Shinjina
(7) Fast ’N’ Inzaine
(6) Eco Force
(2) Fundamental Nature
Race 4:
(10) Pula has previously run to a strong level, and his current quote undersells his chances. The barrier isn’t ideal, but he looks on top at the price.
(8) Veyepee debuted impressively at Geelong, winning in fast time. The rating is solid, though not to the extent he should be $3.40 in a race of this depth.
(3) Savamoon raced keenly at Sandown and faded to fifth. If he settles better, he has ratings that can win this.
(6) Late Harvest is lightly raced and hit a peak last start. He can peak again third-up.
Selections:
(10) Pula
(8) Veyepee
(3) Savamoon
(6) Late Harvest
Race 5:
(4) Mongolian Mission can settle on speed and has been in good form, though the mile remains a slight concern.
(2) Zakouma likely needs a genuinely fast-run mile to be competitive at this level. His price looks short.
(8) Russian Duchess broke her maiden in fast time at Geelong, but this may come too soon.
Selections:
(4) Mongolian Mission
(2) Zakouma
(8) Russian Duchess
Race 6:
(4) Xarpo has trialled well and has previously shown the speed to win over six furlongs. Her stride suggests she might be better over seven, but she is the class runner.
(7) Conscience has been consistent across four starts without posting a big rating yet. She can improve third-up at this track.
(8) Stellar Mofeed led and faded at Moe last time, but he’s capable of producing figures that win a race like this.
(6) Escarpa lacks gate speed but has talent.
Selections:
(4) Xarpo
(7) Conscience
(8) Stellar Mofeed
(6) Escarpa
Race 7:
(7) Here The Crowd could settle prominently and is capable of upsetting the favourite if he underperforms.
(9) Don’t Russia was plain last start but can improve third-up.
Selections:
(7) Here The Crowd
(9) Don’t Russia
Race 8:
(4) Everain was excellent winning last start, though he was well suited by a very fast pace.
(9) Lario has been building this preparation nicely and can peak fourth-up.
(1) Reset The Jazz maps to control the speed and has ratings that put him right in this.
Selections:
(4) Everain
(9) Lario
(1) Reset The Jazz
