Turf Talk

  • Rail: True
  • Warm day and feel this track will start quite fair but may play a little to the front as the day goes on and the track dries out. Getting speed maps right is the key to finding winners.
  • 1100m and 1200m starting points are a short run to the first corner and gates are important.

Stats That Matter

  • Team Munce have saddled 5 winners from their last 14 runners and are in very good form. This season they are 27% positive ROI.
  • Matt Hoysted has turned the tide and has his team back on track. Four runners at the midweeks for two winners and a runner-up.

Race by Race Overview

Race 1
Have liked (2) Sporting Chance all prep but just seems to have a flat spot at the top of the straight and finds one better. Has to be a chance that this is the trip he is looking for. I’m a big fan of (6) So You Are but have to admit he’s had his chances to win lately. Two back he got a great steer and was outclassed. The drop from Group 3 last start to BM78 is a positive. (11) Pleadeel is no star but is in career-best form. Just 51kg and has won or placed in 5 of 10 at the track.

Selections: (6) So You Are, (2) Sporting Chance, (11) Pleadeel, (3) Kirkeby
Suggested Bet: Win (6) So You Are

Race 2
(1) Imposant has been racing in much better company than this. On paper the runs look poor, but I feel they have been okay given the opposition. Fitter for them and this is an ideal target. Clearly the one to beat and $7+ looks amazing to me. (6) Heyoka is fave and hard to knock. Every chance last start but the effort was still good and set to peak 4th up. (10) One Beat No Beat went over the line with Lavoni last start but meets that horse 3kg better at the weights. Very consistent without winning. Like the way (5) Freeland has gone through the line the last couple. Don’t like the gate but should be competitive here.Selections: (1) Imposant, (6) Heyoka, (5) Freeland, (10) One Beat No Beat
Suggested Bet: Win (1) Imposant

Race 3
(3) Bullion Boy jumps sharply in weight but this sets up particularly well for him. Not much speed in the race and they may well decide to dictate up front. Placed in 4 of 5 at the track and hard to run down. (4) Yet He Moves is a consistent type for Waller and was a winner over this track/trip last start. Usually gets back but might use the gate to land midfield. (7) Keitel and (6) Victory Win  have ability but need some speed on as they will get back.Selections: (3) Bullion Boy, (4) Yet He Moves, (6) Victory Win, (7) Keitel
Suggested Bet: No bet

Race 4
Couple of key scratching’s has really shortened up the fave here. (10) Pharoah’s Prophecy is well placed though. Was a dominant winner over this track/trip three back. Winner again after that at a mile. Went too hard last start and just a bit soft late. Can bounce back here.  (7) I’m Zac needs luck from the draw but is usually good through the line and gets a 3kg claim. The gate is the main issue but at $20 does look one for exotics. (1) Boom Shot is one I have always had time for but he just doesn’t win. Gets a lot to suit again here and could win without surprising.Selections: (10) Pharoah’s Prophecy, (7) I’m Zac (1) Boom Shot, (13) Little Jeanie
Suggested Bet: Win (10) Pharoah’s Prophecy

Race 5
Another very even race. (1) Dushenka has shown good ability and has upside. Liked the first-up run at the coast and was good through the line. Fitter now and can improve. Seems short enough though. A couple at big prices could run well. (4) Castello Grande has been okay the first two runs but getting to the mile last run was the key. Looks a nice style of horse and with any luck in running, he can run better than the $13 suggests. (3) Lonesome Soul has been good against decent opposition. Drop in grade last start and got it done. Can win without surprising.  (7) Kickuphigh genuine winning chance here also in a very open race.Selections: (4) Castello Grande, (1) Dushenka, (3) Lonesome Soul, (7) Kickuphigh
Suggested Bet: Small play e/w (4) Castello Grande

Race 6
Hard race to assess. (15) Margot’s Deel is up against the track pattern but the last start win was exceptional. Had trialled well and made a mess of a decent field as a maiden. Just looks a good horse in the making and happy to be with her. (6) Make A Call has only won 3 of 29 but the last start win was impressive at the coast. Also in the Gollan camp so have to respect again. (9) Brave Call in a good stable and has upside. Can fall out of the gates and that would make it tough here.Selections: (15) Margot’s Deel, (6) Make A Call, (9) Brave Call, (2) Cavalry Man
Suggested Bet: Win (15) Margot’s Deel and hope she gets a good steer

Race 7
Competitive race. (1) Pareto has improved each run this prep and was a nice winner this track last start. Draws well for Maloney and has to be a winning chance again. (15) Synergy In Motion has mixed form horribly and looked average. The last start was a bloody good win at $14. Led them up and won by 2.4L. I honestly have no idea what to make of it but will be on speed with no weight. This pattern might play against (5) Chief Witness but the last couple of runs have been excellent and good money when markets opened. (2) Facundo is a beauty but needs luck and a good ride from the draw. Tough race and luck will play a big part.Selections: (5) Chief Witness, (1) Pareto, (15) Synergy In Motion, (2) Facundo
Suggested Bet: No bet

Race 8
Gates and maps are so important over this trip. (17) Guac On is a very good 3yo in a good stable with good upside. Has won two trials leading into this, gelded and can be the big improver. (13) Chalice Well at double figures is the wrong price. Three wide here last start and very brave. Fair to say in career-best form and just needs luck getting cover to win. (2) Surprise Honey isn’t really one of mine but is in the Gollan camp, comes off two wins and draws the right gate to map well. Very open away from them.Selections: (17) Guac On, (13) Chalice Well, (2) Surprise Honey, (12) She’s Exotic
Suggested Bets: Split win bets at double figures (13) Chalice Well and (17) Guac On

Race 9
Rides are the key here. Those on pace can be suited but there is a big chance they overcook it trying to lead. (5) Epic Proportions has never been one of mine but has proved me wrong with a couple of nice wins down south this prep. Perfect horse to bring north this time of year and well placed. (7) Navyonthehighway was going to be a star but was plain last prep. Trials have been good enough and maybe just a better horse this time of the year. (14) Band Of Brothers joins the Dunn stable from down south. High-quality form down there and just needs luck getting the splits from an inside draw as he will be midfield on the fence. (3) Flag Hall next best.Selections: (5) Epic Proportions, (7) Navyonthehighway, (14) Band Of Brothers, (3) Flag Hall
Suggested Bet: No bet
